When it comes to having a proud (and sarcastic) mom, Jason Kelce knows the drill all too well! The Kelce family is still recovering from Jason Kelce’s retirement speech and the tears, happy and sad, that came with it. However, being the loving mama she is, Donna Kelce could hardly let a moment like this go without boasting about the greatest achievements of her son’s career. What she didn’t intend on, however, was reminding Tom Brady of a sour memory.
Revisiting the defining year of her son’s career on his retirement day, Donna Kelce tweeted the happiness that flooded her son’s face when lifting the trophy of his dreams in 2018. The other end of the picture showed the juxtaposition of emotions on the GOAT Tom Brady’s face. Donna Kelce shared an account she had kept on February 4, 2018. “Two orders of fried cheese curds- $50, one ticket to the Super Bowl- $2,100,”, she said. While it did cost her a bit, the next moment was priceless for her, as she said, “My son celebrating the win at the Super Bowl as Tom Brady gets helped off of his butt.” In the picture, Joe Thuney was helping Brady on his feet, while Jason Kelce had his hands up in the air, celebrating the first-ever Lombardi Trophy, Super Bowl LII, that the franchise brought home.
Had to share

There were times when Tom Brady and his 8th Lombardi trophy were merely a hair’s breadth away. However, Jake Elliot had come in with an unmatchable passion on that night, making all three of his attempted field goal attempts, including the game-pivoting 46-yard goal in the fourth quarter, leaving the most elite players like Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady huffing and puffing. While the wounds then were just getting healed, momma Kelce further rubbed salt in them, reminding Brady of the 41-33 loss. While Donna Kelce took her sweet jibe at Tom Brady, Kelce also made it a point to remember her mother sweetly during his retirement speech.

Jason Kelce’s retirement speech
“I won’t forget my mother, becoming Mom of the NFL, a representative for all moms out there who have sacrificed so much for their children,” the former Eagles’ center said. Throughout the speech, Donna Kelce, along with Ed Kelce and Travis Kelce, were constantly dabbing away their teary eyes.
The purely emotional moment was enough to take all of them down memory lane: right from when he was selected as the sixth-round pick in the 2011 NFL draft by the Eagles, being named the starting center there, to being the starting in each of his 16 seasons with Eagles, to being the highest paid center in the NFL with his one year $14.25 million contract in 2022. Even losing against his brother, falling short of 3 points in the State Farm Stadium, all the highs and lows.

While the 13-season coaster could not be summarised in a small speech, the passion overflowing from it was enough to make everyone realize Kelce’s love for football. “Stepping on the field was the most alive and free I had ever felt. I love football,” Kelce had said during his retirement speech, even though his love for football requires no words. His reaction during the solo SB win, as shared by his mother, speaks volumes.
