Imagine yourself on an African jungle safari, with the views kinder on your eyes than the horizon, baby zebras making their way across the pastures, black-maned lions battling it out with the wild buffaloes, and all of a sudden, you spot an ancient woolly mammoth, or a Tasmanian Tiger, thanks to ‘genetic editing’. Sounds like another Jurrasic Park plot, right? Well then, get set to witness the pre-historic animal movies turning to reality as scientists have found a way to bring the woolly mammoths back on earth probably by 2027, in other words, the real-life version of Jurrasic Park. Something that even Tom Brady could hardly wrap his mind around but was super charged about.

Even the 46-year-old who broke a record he set when he was a 25-year-old, could not put a rein on his inner child as well as the curiosity residing in him to witness a woolly mammoth back on earth, very shortly. Colossal Biosciences, a $1.5 billion startup, has made history by redefining discovery in the field of regeneration. The Dallas-based firm started its work on its mammoth gene-editing process in 2021 through CRISPR-Cas9, a gene-editing tool. It is set to propose a hybrid of spliced bits of DNA recovered from frozen mammoth specimens into that of an Asian elephant since they’re the closest living relative of a mammoth. While some might have their apprehensions about it, others, like Tom Brady are all in-store about it. Brady took to his Instagram to share a post stating the historic breakthrough, echoing pure thrill. “LFG I’m so ready for this,” Tom Brady said in his Instagram story, sharing the breakthrough.

Per the firm, the re-introduction of the woolly mammoths will restore the degraded ecosystem to a richer one, similar to the Arctic tundra that existed as recently as 10,000 years ago. Some scientists also believe that their DNA could be the key to preventing the Arctic tundra from releasing huge amounts of greenhouse gasses stored below the surface, equating to a better climate. Climate advocacy is something Tom Brady does very passionately, something he has actively propagated throughout the years.

A project like E1 values sustainability and will make a positive impact on society as a whole,”  Brady asserted, highlighting the importance electric boating races will hold in the near future.
