No team has won the Super Bowl without a little chaos. This is not an official motto, just something that you would notice when hearing interesting anecdotes from your favorite NFL legends. Julian Edelman was recently reminiscing about the time when the Patriots were working towards winning the Super Bowl XLIX.

He recalled this one time when the team didn’t play the best of their matches during the season and wished to practice more. However, the rising stakes kept head coach Bill Belichick on his toes almost always. In hindsight, this one instance has become increasingly hilarious for the retired wide receiver.

Back in November 2014, the Patriots got their “teeth kicked in” over at Green Bay. With Aaron Rodgers‘ leadership, his team won 26-21 against the AFC East competitors. Immediately after they lost the game, Edelman and the rest of his team flew over to San Diego and stayed there for a week to practice.

Bill was so paranoid that the people would see our plays and where we were practicing that we wore blank shirts,” recalled Julian Edelman. During all this seriousness, Rob Gronkowski tried to lighten up the atmosphere for his team. “I remember Gronk coming out with a taped-on 69 in front of a bunch of college kids and they were going crazy.

Edelman even remembers the response of the former Patriots’ general manager as he promptly said, “Rob, get the f— back in there.” The team later went on to win the Super Bowl that season and they think that all this chaos probably was a sign that they were soon to be declared champions.

He revealed how the retired QB never accepted anything less than perfection. This attitude of Brady is probably what led him to so many Super Bowls. Although Julian never clarified exactly why, it seems like the ex-NFL star just wanted to get his intense need for perfectionism out of the way by playfully punching his pal. He wasn’t this intense with the junior stars, Edelman revealed. All of these insights are fun to explore even so many years after the said games and incidents.

It has been long since the New England Patriots won the super bowl. Could this be their year?
