Lewis Hamilton will eventually have to come to grips with the reality of retirement, as not even he can race in Formula 1 forever. This is probably why the seven-time F1 world champion has had his investor cap on for quite some time.

The Brit’s first attempt was to get a stake in Chelsea Football Club with tennis star Serena Williams. However, after the unsuccessful attempt, the 37-year-old crossed continents and changed sports to get his ownership tag. As we’re all aware, Lewis Hamilton became a part owner of the NFL team Denver Broncos.

The Mercedes driver joined hands with the consortium led by the Walton-Penner group, which now owns the Broncos. More details are emerging regarding the takeover, which makes Hamilton’s contribution clearer. As initially understood, the Walton-Penner group completed the takeover for a massive $4.65 billion fee.

The Briton received a 0.2% stake as part of his previously announced investment, which makes him a part owner. The 0.2% stake approximately translates to a $9 million valuation. However, according to Joe Pompliano, minority stakes like Hamilton’s come with a discount tag of about 30-40%. Factoring in this discount, the Brit’s stake in the AFC West franchise could be somewhere around $6 million.

The presumably $6 million stake Lewis Hamilton has in the Broncos is less compared to what he had pledged for the Chelsea deal. Rumor has it that the Brit, along with Serena Williams, pledged around 10 million pounds for the deal that did not materialize.

However, with a $6 million stake in an NFL team, Lewis Hamilton will be an equally happy man. Not just Hamilton, members of the Walton-Penner group are also happy with his involvement.

Rob Walton sings praises of Lewis Hamilton after involvement in the Denver Broncos deal

No matter how little, Hamilton’s contribution to any team is always appreciated. This is exactly why Rob Walton from the Walton-Penner group issued a statement despite Hamilton’s minority stake.

The statement read, “He is a champion competitor who knows what it takes to lead a winning team and a fierce advocate for global equality, including in his own sport.”

“With over 100 race wins, Lewis is considered the most successful F1 driver of all time. His resilient spirit and standard of excellence will be an asset to the ownership group and the Broncos organization,” concluded Walton’s statement.

The minority stake might not give Lewis Hamilton a lot of power on the board. However, his reputation precedes himself, and Hamilton’s word will hold weight.
