There couldn’t be two more different sports than Formula One and football. The NFL and the FIA might control two of the fastest growing sports in the world, but there’s no way they’re in the same league. Despite that, there’s an unlikely friendship emerging from these two sports- Daniel Ricciardo and Josh Allen.

A former Red Bull driver, Daniel Ricciardo, has come a long way since his early days in red and purple, and is now part of Team Papaya. The McLaren speedster and Lando Norris form a super team that dominated in Monza, picking up a P1 and P2 finish. However, it looks like Lando is out of the best friend slot, as in comes Josh Allen.

The Buffalo Bills’ quarterback is having a meteoric season that will most likely end with his team qualifying for the playoffs. The Super Bowl is a long shot, but the Bills’ destructive offensive line-up has what it takes to go all the way. Speaking to Marty Smith on ESPN, Ricciardo and Allen talked about the similarities in their sport and how winning a race comes close to winning the Super Bowl.

Allen said, “Both of our seasons are fairly long, and you have to stay patient and you can’t let the last race or the last game define what you’re going to do; continue going forward. I don’t know how to explain it, it’s just there’s so much going on that somehow when you’re in that driver’s seat or when you’re in the huddle, everybody is looking at you and you have to control your feelings, control your emotions and figure out the best plan of action.”

Ricciardo continued, “There’s dealing with the pressure, the split-second decisions we have to make those on talk. And you have to make them multiple times during a game. It’s that process and how do you get yourself there. What do you do pre-game? How do you stay calm? How do you block out all the noise?”

Fair to say, both Allen and Ricciardo have a fair understanding of their respective sports. This would make both NFL and F1 fans quite happy, encouraging cross-sport viewers. If there’s anyone who wouldn’t appreciate this budding friendship, it’s poor Lando Norris.

We understand what you feel, Lando. We’ve all been there. But coming back to the new best buds, we hope their next ventures bring them success. Allen and the Bills get a week seven bye, which means he can watch Ricciardo run rampant in Arlington, Texas.
