Entering Super Bowl LV, Patrick Mahomes and Co. of the Kansas City Chiefs had planned to run it back. But hopes of defending their crown quickly faded away as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers defense pounced on Mahomes repeatedly after breaching their O-line.
Their shortcomings at offensive tackle were glaring. Patrick Mahomes was pressured a record 29 times by the Buccaneers defense. The QB was also sacked on 3 separate occasions that night.
Their lack of able pass protection made the dominant franchise look like a shadow of their usual self. This prompted the Kansas City Chiefs to start afresh.

Releasing starting tackles Eric Fisher and Mitchell Swartz. While the franchise has resigned offensive lineman Mike Remmers to be their starting right tackle for 2021, the starting spot for left tackle remains vacant.
With options dwindling in free agency, we take a look at how the Kansas City Chiefs could potentially plug this glaring deficiency through the 2021 NFL Draft.
LTs the Kansas City Chiefs could consider drafting
Samuel Cosmi – Entering the draft as one of the most experienced and versatile offensive tackle, Cosmi is a giant for his position.
Standing at 6’7″ the O-linesman from the University of Texas can be a problem for plenty of defensive ends with his size and athleticism.
Cosmi has 1,529 career pass-blocking snaps to his name, making him an experienced campaigner among other recruits.
Jalen Mayfield – An O-linesman from the University of Michigan, Mayfield is a tackle who can play on either side. The Chiefs though would be keen to slot him as the left tackle.
An athletic specimen the Kansas City Chiefs could surely benefit from the player’s ability to block heavy pass rush plays. Something that Patrick Mahomes would be thoroughly appreciative of.

Liam Eichenberg – One from the long list of offensive linesman to have been churned out by Notre Dame, Eichenberg can be a highly successful offensive tackle if given the right environment to grow.
An imposing figure at 6’6″ Eichenberg beats opposition defenses with his excellent knowledge of the game and size. But one avenue he struggles in is countering against the Biltz.
