There’s very little doubt over who the Jacksonville Jaguars will select with their first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. Clemson QB Trevor Lawrence is the unanimous #1 heading into the draft and thus it’s no surprise the Jaguars franchise is monitoring him closely.

Trevor Lawrence has been a phenomenon in the college circuit. Widely regarded as the best QB to declare for the draft in years, Lawrence is the sort of player who can turn a franchise’s fortunes around.

And that’s exactly what the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking for. The franchise has made it to the NFL playoffs only twice in 14 years. And no other season apart from the ones they made the playoffs did they finish with a winning record.

Trevor Lawrence could soon change that under the mentorship of new Head Coach Urban Meyer.

Jaguars keeping a tab on Trevor Lawrence

Like every other franchise, Jaguars scouts have been shadowing Lawrence since the beginning of last season. With the #1 pick now locked up by the franchise, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the franchise has been in touch with the QB.

“He has been participating in several Zooms with the Jacksonville Jaguars coaches, presumably including Urban Meyer,” said Rapoport.

“Just to make sure he’s up on everything he possibly can be. They still haven’t specifically said it’s going to be Trevor Lawrence, we think it probably is, but if it is Trevor Lawrence, they’re making sure he’s staying on top of everything before they say his name.”

Rapoport also provided an update on the quarterback’s recovery from a surgery on his non-throwing arm. The NFL Insider reported that the QB is doing well and ahead of schedule in terms of rehab.

“I’ve talked to several people close to Trevor Lawrence and everyone has said the same thing — he’s doing well, very well, and ahead of schedule,” Rapoport said.

“We’re about a month in for Trevor Lawrence. He had surgery on his non-throwing shoulder in the middle of February. He’s still out in California working out with a physical therapist to make sure he’s getting ready as fast as possible.”
