There’s been a lot of noise regarding the San Francisco 49ers this offseason. The franchise which had Jimmy Garoppolo as their starter over the past couple of seasons had made the Super Bowl as recently as 2020. But it looks like the Niners are looking at alternatives.
The franchise traded up the draft ladder to land themselves the third overall pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. And the San Francisco 49ers management has already made it very clear that they wish to draft a QB with the pick.
The move by the 49ers is understandable, as this year’s quarterback class is stacked. With talents like Trevor Lawrence, Zach Wilson, Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones up for grabs among others, teams looking to make the switch to a new QB feel now is the time.

With Lawrence and Wilson predicted to go with the first two picks, the 49ers will probably have Jones, Fields, and Lance to choose from. Their decision could shape the franchise’s future.

NFL insider Ian Rapoport believes he has a scoop about the 49ers draft dilemma.
San Francisco 49ers focusing on two QBs
The San Francisco 49ers have been heavily linked with Alabama QB Mac Jones. While Fields and Lance also seem to have caught the interest of the franchise, Rapoport believes the 49ers have zeroed in on two QBs.
Taking to Twitter, Rapoport said that the chase for the 49ers QB spot has boiled down to Mac Jones and Trey Lance.
“As the #49ers close in on their decision of which QB to take at No. 3, sources say they are down to two prospects — and the belief is those two are #Bama QB Mac Jones and #NDSU QB Trey Lance. Several sources say the focus does appear to have shifted to those two,” he tweeted.

The draft stock of Ohio QB Justin Fields has taken a hit over the course of the offseason. Once considered second-best only to Lawrence, Fields has become slipped down the pecking order.
