The San Francisco 49ers have found themselves their quarterback for the future in NDSU’s Trey Lance. But this move has put the future of Jimmy Garoppolo on the West coast in jeopardy.
The quarterback who was traded by the franchise back in 2017 from the New England Patriots was part of the Niners side that made it to the Super Bowl in 2020.
But with questions being asked regarding his durability, the Niners franchise has decided to look elsewhere to carry forward its Super Bowl ambitions.

Niners Head Coach Kyle Shanahan, though, maintained that Garoppolo will be the starting QB for the 2021 season. This will give Lance time to adjust to the leap in competition.
Jimmy Garoppolo is just happy to be playing
Appearing on KJZ, Jimmy Garoppolo talked about his relationship with the franchise through the whole draft process.
“The communication has been good. There really hasn’t been anything unsaid. Everything has been put on the table,” said Garoppolo.
Recovering from an injury, Jimmy G further said that for now, he is just happy to be able to play football again.
“It’s kind of one of those situations where I’m just happy to have the opportunity to play football. At the end of the day, that’s what I’m here for and that’s what I signed up for.
“As long as I have the opportunity to go out there, win some games, and play good football. I mean, that’s all you could ask,” he said.
Talking about grabbing hold of opportunities, the quarterback said that he’s not letting go of the chance he’s got.
“If you get an opportunity, you got to take advantage of it. And that’s what I’m trying to do.”
Garoppolo has been commended for the decorum he’s maintained through the draft process of Trey Lance. The 49ers had made it clear weeks before the draft that they were in the hunt for a QB.

And the franchise stuck to its word by drafting Trey Lance with the 3rd overall pick they had obtained from the Miami Dolphins. Garoppolo will most likely start for the Niners come Game Week 1. But how long he has a hold over that starting spot remains to be seen.
