Thanks to the former Jaguars coach’s mind-boggling performance this season, the American was very much in demand across college football teams. As a result, Tucker had his name linked to two of the most high-profile positions in college football, at USC and LSU.

However, it appears like he will be sticking in East Lansing for the time being. According to the Detroit Free Press, Michigan State is negotiating a 10-year contract extension with the 49-year-old that will pay him $95 million over that time.
Decoding the salary of coaches in College Football
According to a USA TODAY salary database, the average yearly worth of Tucker’s rumoured new contract significantly exceeds the highest amount paid to a Big Ten football coach this season. The highest paid to a college coach this season is $7 million awarded to Penn State’s James Franklin.

Statistically, only former MSU coach Nick Saban at Alabama ($9.753 million, including athletically related outside revenue) would make more money this season than Tucker under his restructured contract. LSU’s Ed Orgeron is the second-highest-paid coach in college football this year. Oregon makes $9.012 million, including a pandemic-related pay cut and outside revenue. Orgeron and the school, on the other hand, have negotiated an agreement that forces him to leave at the end of this season.
