Aaron Rodgers hasn’t yet finalized his move to the New York Jets, awaiting pending negotiations between his potential new team and the Packers. However, his desire to join the Gang Green may have multiplied many folds this week after sighting one of his future o-linemen. Mekhi Becton stood tall beside some of the biggest people, from past and present, on the earth, and dwarfed them in comparison. And A-Rod has to be impressed.

Becton stood beside one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time and one of the deadliest UFC Heavyweights of all time, towering over them with his 6 ft 7-inch frame. There has certainly been a lot of concern around the tackle’s health and fitness. And Mekhi seems to be taking the off-season preparation to a whole new level.

7x Mr Olympia Arnold Schwarzenegger did not foresee any probable scenario where he was the smallest among three men in a picture. However, the 75-year-old former Governor of California is long past his bodybuilding peak. Arnold had to let the next generation through. Louisville offensive lineman Mekhi Becton barged in.

A fit Becton can solve A-Rod and the Jets’ problems

Becton’s availability for the 2023 season will be a huge plus for the Jets. Things get easier if the 363 lbs Mekhi is there at tackle to protect a 39-year-old Aaron Rodgers, entering his 19th season in the league. However, if the last two seasons serving as an example, Becton’s case becomes significantly weaker. The 23-year-old missed almost the entirety of the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons with major knee injuries.

And it’s the same right knee that has been the source of all problems for the young tackle. After surgically repairing it in 2021, the former first-round 11th overall pick from the 2020 draft once again fractured his knee cap during practice ahead of the 2022 season.

The Jets and the Green Bay Packers continue their negotiations for Aaron Rodgers. Meanwhile, Mekhi Becton looks set to spend a full year on the field and not on the sidelines. Whether to protect Rodgers or someone else, remains to be seen.
