The Chiefs may have won the match against the Jets at MetLife Stadium, but the real winner of the match was Jets QB Zach Wilson. The 24-year old proved doubters wrong that he was unworthy of being called Aaron Rodgers’ successor. What’s more, he set a record in Patrick Mahomes’ career history of being the only opposing QB to score more completions, passing TDs, and fewer interceptions.

But Zach does not have time to rest on his laurels. And that is what he believes is the most exciting thing about football – growth. Will he be able to keep the momentum in his upcoming matches?

In a press con after the practice session on Thursday, Wilson said, “How can I have been better at that game?” Even after the amount of criticism Wilson received for tanking the games against the Cowboys and the Patriots, he is not out for blood. He’s already thinking about the next game. There is no doubt that he has a chip on his shoulder. Filling in the giant shoes of a towering personality like Aaron Rodgers is a tough job. “We didn’t win the game,” he admitted. But it finally looks like he might be onto something.

Fans might remember how 7x SB MVP Tom Brady’s career took off. Brady was selected with pick number 199, a compensatory pick, in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL Draft. He only got to play his first proper match when New England Patriots QB Drew Bledsoe suffered internal bleeding after a hit from Jets linebacker Mo Lewis. And the rest, as they say, is history. We’re not saying Zach Wilson is the next Tom Brady, but we wouldn’t dismiss him so soon either. His upcoming match against the Denver Broncos is going to be particularly exciting as he faces off against another Wilson with a similar trajectory this season.

A Tale of two Wilsons

Russell Wilson was called one of the most disrespected QBs this season. He was just a shell of his former Seattle Seahawks self. Under his leadership, the team lost three of their starting matches. And in the game against the Dolphins, they made franchise history by letting the Dolphins score 70 points. Wilson was criticized and trolled online. But he did not let it get to him. Even in the blowout loss against the Dolphins, the $245 million QB seemed to be doing better and better. And then in their last match against the Chicago Bears, they finally registered their first win of the season.

A 1-3 Jets will face off against a similarly placed 1-3 Broncos on October 9. It will also be a Wilson vs. Wilson showdown. Besides, another rivalry will be playing out on the sidelines. Nathaniel Hackett, the Jets’ new offensive coordinator was the Broncos’ head coach last year. Head Coach Sean Payton will now finally get the chance to walk the talk after he trash-talked Hackett and called his coaching, “one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL.“. Pride comes before a fall? We will have to wait till Sunday to find out.
