Bill Belichick has been navigating some rough waters this season. The New England Patriots are enduring a drought of epic proportions that’s got fans scratching their heads and doubting the future of their fearless leader. From 2001 to 2019, Belichick was the mastermind behind six Super Bowl triumphs. But fast forward to today, and they’re on the verge of missing the postseason for the third time in the last four years.

The Patriots dropped to a disappointing 1-5 record on Sunday, taking them back to the dark days of 1995. Belichick, usually as cool as a cucumber, couldn’t contain his frustration as he hurled his clipboard into the turf at Allegiant Stadium after the 21-17 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders. To make matters even more bittersweet, this nail-biter marked Coach Belichick’s 500th game at the helm.

The New England Patriots, once the gold standard of NFL excellence, now find themselves wandering in the football wilderness. The last time they were this lost, it was 1995. Most of their current squad hadn’t even taken their first steps, let alone thrown their first touchdown. That ’95 team slouched to a 6-10 finish. And looking at today’s performances, it’s hard to picture this crew surpassing that win total. Or causing any real ripples in the turbulent AFC playoff waters.

Even when they kick it into high gear, the Patriots aren’t exactly a constellation of superstar talent, especially on the offensive line. And let’s not forget their relentless injury streak,. It is like pouring a whole shaker of salt in the already painful wound. With that sword dangling over his head, the big question is where the wily Belichick will choose to ply his trade next.

NBC Sports maestro Mike Giardi didn’t pull any punches on ‘Boston Sports Tonight.’ When asked by co-host Mike Felger about potential landing spots for the Patriots’ head honcho, Giardi delivered it straight up. “Two landing spots that came to my mind… is one Chicago… and the other one that makes a lot of sense to me is the Washington Commanders…that team is very bland.” So, what’s the play for Coach Belichick? Touchdown in Chicago or suit up in D.C.? It’s game on!
