Russell Wilson recalled his actions off-field from the day prior. The Denver Broncos quarterback might not want to reminisce about his average performance in this season’s games, but his and his wife Ciara‘s philanthropic work is certainly a topic he’d like to discuss and keep in the highlights.

So far this NFL season, Wilson and his Orange team have been struggling with a 1-5 record. Wilson, in particular, has been facing online backlash, and his future with the team now appears uncertain. However, the $1 million donation to those in need by him and Ciara has undoubtedly provided him with a sense of inner peace. There is another reason attached to this gesture, which the 34-year-old recently recalled.

A day ago, Russell Wilson and his wife Ciara donated $1 million to 10 different organizations through their @WhyNotYouFdn and @commonspirit charities. The purpose of this philanthropic work was to support “health equity, education, food security, social justice, and support for children and youth.

During a press conference, Wilson was asked about this gesture and how he felt after making the donations to those in need. He replied, “It’s definitely a blessing obviously.” He went on to mention that every day when he wakes up, he thinks about his family, football, and the community.

He recalled that back during his college and rookie years, he had a strong desire to make a positive impact in communities, and his wife and he have always been passionate about supporting youth. He continued, “My dad used to always say, son why not you and why not you dream big and why not you that do this and why don’t you graduate or why not you play pro ball or pro baseball or whatever it may be and every day that’s instilled in my heart.

Therefore, his motivation for engaging in humanitarian work seems to be deeply rooted in his inner passion and his father’s influence. Furthermore, it appears that the “why not you” statement from his dad is the inspiration behind the name of his foundation, “Why Not You.” However, that’s not all. There is another reason attached to the actions of the football star.

After handing $1 million oversized checks each to 10 different non-profit organizations on Tuesday at his Broncos training facility, Wilson said, “When the season is not going the way you want it to or when some young child has cancer or someone that you know is going through something, that is really tough. I’ve seen the miracle myself, so that’s why we created the Why Not You Foundation.
