The Kansas City Chiefs are flying high right now. Sitting at the top of the AFC West table with a 5-1 record. But over the last few games, there have been murmurs as to how this team isn’t playing like the one last season. Patrick Mahomes and co. were blasted after their win over the Broncos by the co-host of Undisputed.

Keyshawn, the former 3-time Pro Bowler and a Super Bowl winner with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers is the co-host of the Undisputed show. He put a magnifying glass on the Chiefs’ performances over the weeks. And he finds a major ingredient lacking in them.

Keyshawn Johnson, former wide receiver for the Jets and the Cowboys, as well as Super Bowl XXXVII winner with the Buccaneers, has been paying close attention to the Chiefs. The 51-year-old retired footballer told his co-hosts, (I keep thinking) what the heck is wrong with them (Chiefs).

After much deliberation, he got to the root cause of the Chief’s misery in the red zone, Eric Bieniemy. He was the Chief’s offensive coordinator from 2017 to 2023 but left before this season began, to link up with the Washington Commanders. As Matt Nagy was elevated to become the Chiefs offensive coordinator, Johnson doesn’t like what he’s seeing with Nagy.

“I look at Matt Nagy on the sideline call it plays or giving that influence whatever you want to call it and so I started to say well Eric Bieniemy is missing.”, said Johnson to his co-hosts Skip Bayless and Michael Irvin. Johnson isn’t the only one who’s critical of Chiefs’ performance. After the Broncos game, a former 3X Super Bowl Winner also chimed in.

Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe on ESPN said, “It is a struggle for them (Chiefs) to beat man coverage on a consistent basis”. Sharpe’s concerns are also shared by Johnson when he said on Undisputed, “Where’s the creativity?” His question rings true for each member of the squad, including superstar QB Patrick Mahomes.

William Shakespeare once wrote, “Heavy is the head that wears the crown.” That is the case with the Chiefs. They are the defending champions and the expectations from them are other-worldly. It will be interesting to see if they can reach their potential against the Los Angeles Chargers.
