According to sports analytics site StatMuse, the Chicago Bears have made their worst-ever start to a season in 2023, with a four-out-of-four loss record. But do we really need to look at the stats to realize where the Bears have fallen? Probably not. And the constant pressure and criticism building on their nerves has shown its effects in the games.

Against the Chiefs last week, the Bears made an early false start. In a game already out of the league, it set the tone for the Chiefs early in the game. One week later, in another game, which was supposed to be their last glimpse of hope, the Bears repeated the mistake. This time, with two of them, awarding two 5 yard penalties to the Broncos. The moments became the turning point of the game.

What almost looked like a breathable moment after 4 games, turned into another addition to the ‘What If’ list of the Bears. Thanks to Russell Wilson and Co, the Broncos ran riot against the Chicagoans in the fourth quarter. Hopes were still around in the third quarter, but offensive tackle Larry Broom’s falter diminished it. Not immediately, but definitely.

The false start was punished with a touchdown. But the Bears, still leading by 7 points didn’t realise what was to come. The mental advantage of the last-minute TD carried over to the final quarter of the game as Russell Wilson unleashed the Broncos’ comeback mode. The situation reminded one of the Bears’ last week’s horror against the Chiefs.

The post-game statistics revealed that the Bears made a total of five false starts against the Broncos, making up for a potential 30 in return, beyond carelessness for a team that’s already 0-3. Right now, the only interesting thing left for the Bears community is head coach Matt Eberfluss’ reaction. We shouldn’t be surprised if he’s shown the exit door within the next few days, along with a few others.
