Patrick Mahomes, the NFL’s youngest legend, is in his eighth year, and he’s already been a wrecking ball against most of the league’s teams. But there’s one exception to the Mahomes magic, and that’s the Minnesota Vikings. Well, back in 2019, the Vikings faced off against the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead. Unfortunately for Mahomes fans, he was sidelined with an injury while watching backup QB Matt Moore lead the Chiefs to a 33-26 victory.

However, this time around, Patrick Mahomes is locked and loaded, ready to go toe-to-toe with Kirk Cousins and his Vikings. Week 5 is going to be a showdown as the Chiefs march into U.S. Bank Stadium. Will history repeat itself with just a little remix? Well, it sure looks like déjà vu is on the menu.

Speaking of déjà vu, Mahomes has a unique connection to U.S. Bank Stadium, the Vikings’ stomping ground. Patrick Mahomes has been to the Bank Stadium before, albeit as a spectator. Going back all the way to 2019, the same fateful year when the quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs couldn’t play the Vikings at their home ground, Arrowhead.

However, Patrick Mahomes, the 2x Super Bowl MVP, wasn’t just a spectator in those stands. He was there to support his Texas Tech Red Raiders during the 2019 Final Tour. And boy, did they make some noise! They made Michigan State kiss the turf, but alas, they couldn’t seal the deal against Virginia in overtime during the championship game.

From Viking to Chief: Jerick McKinnon’s NFL journey

Jerick ‘Do-It-All’ McKinnon, the versatile running back for the Chiefs, was once drafted by the Vikings themselves. The 31-year-old kicked off his NFL journey in Minnesota, where he racked up 58 appearances in four seasons. But let’s talk about Jerick’s swan song with the Vikings—a standout season with 570 rushing yards and 421 through the air. He even started 14 games, showing his prowess.

Then, Jerick McKinnon had a pit stop with the 49ers before joining the Chiefs in 2021. Fast forward to now, and McKinnon is lighting it up for the Chiefs, especially in receiving and blocking. He put up nine receiving touchdowns last season, including a pair against the Bears just two weeks ago. But here’s the kicker: this Sunday night football showdown marks Jerick’s first clash with his original squad.
