The past week has not been great for Tyreek Hill. After an impressive three-week run in the season, the Miami Dolphins stumbled in their Week 4 match against the Bills. Hill had three catches for 58 yards in Week 4  as the Dolphins succumbed to a 48-20 loss. If breaking their winning streak wasn’t bad enough, Hill ran into another hitch.

The wide receiver found himself on the receiving end of the league’s ire following the Week 3 battle against the Denver Broncos. After leading the Dolphins to crush the Broncos 70-20, Hill did not expect an envelope from the NFL. Fans and the WR were less than thrilled with the message.

A nudge from the league to the ‘Cheetah’

The NFL wasn’t impressed with ‘Cheetah’ when he took the field for the record-setting Week 3 battle against the Broncos. The 29-year-old skipped wearing socks, and the league charged him a hefty fine of $7,000 for this uniform violation.

The WR, however, insists it wasn’t intentional. “I was getting an IV, and I didn’t want to be late for the play. So I didn’t have time to put on my socks,” he divulged to an outlet.

Upon receiving the fine notification, the WR was taken aback by the hefty sum. He’s sought to appeal the amount and hopes the sum will be reduced.

The NFL fining players for uniform violations is not unheard of. According to the NFL rulebook, uniform inconsistencies like socks, jerseys, and undergarments can result in fines starting at $5,464. Star wide receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster, once during his time with the Steelers, was fined $5,000 for not wearing socks up to the pants. Former running back Frank Gore once had to fork over a whopping $10,500. But it’s not just Tyreek Hill; many find it hard to digest hefty fines over a simple pair of socks.

The fans chastise the measure

While nobody is exempt from the rules, many fans were up in arms over the huge sum charged to the WR. Many expressed their fury at the punitive measure by the NFL on Twitter.

“That’s why he’s so fast. Unfair advantage. Leave it to the NFL. They don’t just fleece customers but players, too,” said a user taking a jab at the league.

“That really socks,” a user quipped.

“The NFL is petty,” chimed in another.

”Seriously? That’s absurd,” noted another.

“But they won’t fine refs for completely ruining games,” another remarked.
