These two quarterbacks are consistently regarded as among the best in the game, boasting strikingly similar statistics and a massive fan base. While Wilson’s Denver Broncos have experienced his fair share of criticisms due to constant defeats this season, Mahomes is playing a crucial role in building the Kansas City Chiefs‘ position as strong contenders for another Super Bowl title this year. The Chiefs are lined up to take on the Denver Broncos on Thursday night football. This showdown is scheduled to kick off at 8:15 PM ET at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium. The game will feature two of the best quarterbacks in the NFL. While the Denver Broncos are 1-4 and the Kansas City Chiefs are 4-1, it’s worth noting that both have recently created history in the league. Russell Wilson, with an impressive 11-year career, has broken a record that has eluded most players who have been in the league for more than 15 years. Wilson became the first quarterback in NFL history to reach 5,000 yards rushing and 40,000 yards passing.

This achievement highlights Wilson’s excellence as a quarterback, making him one of the top-tier players in the league surpassing the players like Michael Vick and Cam Newton, as well as Josh Allen and even Patrick Mahomes. On the other hand, Patrick Mahomes continues to make his mark on the NFL landscape this season. First, Mahomes has thrown over 200 touchdowns in only 84 games creating an NFL record for himself. Second, Mahomes is the first player in the history of the NFL to beat all 31 other teams and their quarterbacks before he turns 30. These incredible feats have cemented Mahomes’ place as a star and one of the best players in the league.

There’s no doubt that both QBs are as talented as they are capable of setting and breaking all kinds of records for themselves and their teams. So, where exactly can these two incredible QBs be compared to?

Patrick Mahomes is undeniably a game-changer as a Quarterback!

The most notable difference between them is in their stats. Both QBs stood in the NFL with outstanding rookie seasons, showing great skill and success on the field. Russell Wilson’s journey began when he was picked in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. From day one, Wilson’s NFL career was full of success. He led the Seahawks to 7 playoff appearances in his rookie year. Wilson has attempted 3,291 passes in his career, completing 196. His best season was 2018 when he completed 427 passes with 35 touchdowns. Wilson has the second-highest career passer rating in NFL history (100.3), after Aaron Rodgers.

Patrick Mahomes, in contrast, made an immediate impact in the NFL during his debut in Week 1 of the 2017 regular season. Mahomes showcased his abilities by completing 22 of 35 passes for 284 yards, setting a Chiefs single-season record for passing yards by a rookie quarterback. Similar to Wilson, Mahomes won his first Super Bowl championship in his second season as a starter. Both players have a baseball background and come with a similar game style. When looking at their individual accomplishments, it is noteworthy that Wilson has nine Pro Bowl appearances, three NFL Offensive Player titles, and one NFL MVP trophy. Conversely, Mahomes has multiple All-Pro selections, two NFL MVPs, and two Super Bowl titles.

Another difference between the two is their age, as Wilson is 34, and Mahomes is 28 years old. While the game on Thursday may be seen as a matchup of experience vs. accomplished, it’s hard to say what will happen. Considering the last head-to-head between the two, Mahomes’ Chiefs squad was defeated by Wilson’s Seahawks 38-31 last December in Seattle.

But again, what about the question of rivalry between the two teams? Here, it is also worthy of recalling Broncos’ edge-rusher Frank Clark Saturday’s statement. Clark, who contributed to 8 of the 15 straight game losses to the Chiefs, dating back to 2015, said, “I wouldn’t call it a rivalry. A rivalry is competitive. I’ve been on the other side, and we didn’t call it a rivalry then.”  Well, the Broncos certainly have to do more than just a win to get there.

Based on their current team performance, it is fair to suggest that the Chiefs have an upper hand over the Broncos. But who knows that another spectacular Hail Mary from Wilson could give the Broncos their second victory of the season?
