It’s a rivalry that spans six decades, two leagues, and 40 games. The Kansas City Chiefs and the New York Jets have a long and storied rivalry that dates to the days of the AFL. It’s a rivalry that has seen legends rise and fall, records broken, and hearts shattered. A rivalry that has been deadlocked for years, with each side claiming 19 wins and one tie.
The two teams have met 40 times in the regular season and postseason. On Sunday night, they will face off again at MetLife Stadium, with the Chiefs looking to break the deadlock and the Jets hoping to pull off a stunning upset and the past 21 years suggests that Jets might be able to do it.

2002 was the last time The Chiefs were victorious against The Jets in their home. The Jets didn’t even play at MetLife Stadium back then, which they moved into in 2010. Their record at hosting the Chiefs in MetLife is 2-0. The words of Aaron Rodgers might inspire the team along with the history in their favor but their last meeting might also crop up some bad memories.
Though the Chiefs’ last game at MetLife was a close defeat in 2017 with Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill putting on a valiant effort despite the loss. The story was flipped on its head completely when Chiefs and Jets met at Arrowhead. The Chiefs also by that time had Superstar QB Patrick Mahomes at their disposal.

At the tail end of 2020, the Jets last faced The Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes put on a show. Then 25-year-old Mahomes dazzled the Jets defensive line, completing 31 passes with an accuracy of almost 75%. Mahomes was too overwhelming for The Jets as he completed 5 TDs in that game. The QB is much more mature now and 2 Super Bowl Championships under his belt, he would love to break the curse and get that special 20 win for the Chiefs. With the form that The Chiefs are displaying this season, they just might be unstoppable.

The Jets are 0-3 and have scored only 33 points, the lowest in the league. The Chiefs, on the other hand, are 2-1 and have scored 102 points, the second-highest in the league. Mahomes has been sensational as usual, throwing for 914 yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions. He has a plethora of weapons at his disposal like TE Travis Kelce and WR Kaderius Toney. The Chiefs’ defense has also been solid, led by Chris Jones. The Jets would be dearly missing their recent acquisition A-Rod for this game, with their roster now looking lackluster.
The Chiefs are heavily favored to win this game with their drubbing of the Jets 35-9 still fresh in the memory. However, anything can happen in the NFL, and the Jets will not go down without a fight. Backup QB Zach Wilson will have to shine in these bright lights and HC Saleh known for his defensive acumen would be on his tiptoes for the game.
