Russell Wilson was a big deal during his time with the Seattle Seahawks, and there’s no doubt about it. The star QB had a steady reign of ten seasons with the Seahawks, even snagging a Super Bowl and boasting of a remarkable 104-53-1 record. Seahawks fans sure miss their beloved QB since he traded his Seahawks pasture for the Broncos in 2022. But it seems that the QB was far from being missed by some of his fellow mates, like Marshawn Lynch.

Marshawn Lynch, the ex-football running back, shared a good four years of his career with Russell Wilson from 2012 to 2015. But in a recent podcast, an anecdote unexpectedly spilled some beans about the QB and his strained relationship with Lynch. The revelations about the former teammates took many by surprise.

Marshawn Lynch does not have fond memories of the QB

Lynch remembers Wilson as aloof, to put it mildly. In fact, Lynch doesn’t have much to recall from their shared days because he says their relationship was strictly business. Pat McAfee, in the latest episode of his show, recounted the incident when the gap between Lynch and Wilson really hit the nerves of the running back.

It was after a game against the Tennessee Titans back in 2013. Wilson was left unimpressed with his performance throwing for 257 yards with zero touchdowns, despite beating their rivals. At the time, Lynch really wanted to reach out to his then-teammate Wilson to offer his support.

“Immediately after the game he was trying to call Russell Wilson. He had to go through a couple of people to get Russell Wilson’s number. He didn’t get Russell Wilson’s number; Russell Wilson called him, the number was blocked. Does that mean Russell Wilson’s number is private? Which some people have probably, but for whatever reason, Marshawn Lynch wasn’t able to just get Russell Wilson’s number immediately, and they were teammates”, McAfee explained.

The current Broncos QB is no stranger to criticism, having faced his fair share of the same over the years. But with Lynch’s experience being brought to light, the incident raised many eyebrows about Wilson’s communication and teamwork skills.

Marshawn Lynch’s foiled attempts at relationship-building

In a recent appearance on Shannon Sharpe’s “Club Shay Shay” podcast, Lynch divulged the dynamic of his relationship with Wilson, or rather, the lack of it beyond the gridiron. Besides not having Wilson’s digits, there were other examples of his foiled attempts at striking up some light-hearted camaraderie with his teammate. Turns out, Lynch had gone out of his way to be a buddy to the QB during their four-year stint with the Seahawks.

Lynch tried to let Wilson know he had his back. But the QB was hardly interested. “His response to me was kind like, ‘The f–k?’ So, I told him again like, ‘Nah, bro, I’m here for you, we gonna rock.’ His response was the same,” Lynch recalled.

The new revelations have given more insight into the golden years of the Seahawks and they were not so wholesome at its core, apparently. What do you think of the strained terms between the team’s star players? Do you think it may have affected them in the gridiron as well?
