Patrick Mahomes‘ worst fear could come true before the Kansas City Chiefs walk into their next game. The Chiefs were in their usual rhythm when they faced the Vikings last week. But there was one critical offbeat that many overlooked, or, rather wished to. Now, it may have come back to haunt Mahomes and the Chiefs.
Mahomes’ best offense mate, tight end Travis Kelce, went out in the second quarter after injuring his ankle. Travis later returned in the second half and even added one touchdown to the scoreboard. But who would have guessed there were early signs of bad things to come?

The Chiefs captain might have been the happiest man on the field when he saw Travis Kelce put his helmet back in the second half. But four days have passed since, and things are about to get real. And the reality is often disappointing. Before the Chiefs’ next game against the Broncos on Thursday, the team released their injury report for the week. The first name on the list will cause many headaches, including Patrick Mahomes.
According to the list, Travis Kelce is declared of questionable status. While it may not be anything serious, that’s something Mahomes didn’t wish to see in his nightmares. The news broke through an X (formerly Twitter) post shared by the Chiefs, on October 12.
Travis Kelce, George Karlaftis, and Tommy Townsend are questionable for tomorrow night’s game.

The quarterback and tight end duo is the biggest offensive asset the Cheifs have, as both have solidified their names among the greatest in their respective positions. There’s a combined effort of these two behind every ladder the Chiefs have climbed since 2017, and one is incomplete without the other. Mahomes will surely miss Kelce by his side, should he be forced to the sidelines with the injury scare.
Luckily, it’s not the end of the world for either. But it probably is, for the Broncos‘ head coach Sean Payton as the Chiefs certainly can ‘handle’ them even without the service of Travis Kelce. At least that’s what the past eight year’s track record suggests.

The Denver Broncos right now is an entirely different world than that of the Chiefs. The slightest ray of hope that appeared after the Bears game got a reality check against the Jets, and their playoff hopes are about to get extended to nine years. There’s no immediate relief in sight either as the defending champion Kansas City Chiefs cross their paths next. The Thursday night game with another disappointing outcome could be the final nail in the coffin for Sean Payton.
So far, we’ve seen Russell Wilson do his wonder once, against the Bears. But the Chiefs are on a different spectrum to repeat the heroics. On the flip side of the coin, the Broncos can’t count on the 34-year-old quarterback on a regular basis either who’s nearing the end of his career.

At this point of the season, the defense should show up for themselves to get out of this abysmal low. As a legend once said, “Attack wins you games, defense wins you titles”. Even in a different sport, that is incredibly relevant for the current Denver Broncos team. Can the struggling Broncos save the day for Sean Payton with a massive upset?
