The NFL Week 6 witnessed multiple injuries, ranging from minor incidents to heart-stopping ones. Among them, the game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the New England Patriots also witnessed a brutal setback in the form of their QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The match on Sunday, October 15 at Allegiant Stadium, starting at 4:05 p.m. ET helped the Raiders secure a satisfactory win.
They carded a dominant 4-point win with a 21-17 victory, bringing their season record to 3-3. However, amid the celebration, the Quarterback left the game and was ruled out for further participation due to an internal injury. This has left a big question mark surrounding his return for the next match against the Chicago Bears on Sunday, October 22. Nevertheless, a recent update provides some mixed, yet fortunate news for the Raider Nation.

Jimmy Garoppolo sustained an injury during the Raiders’ final drive in the first half but toughed it out and remained in the game. It was evident that he was in considerable pain as he clutched his lower right back. This eventually led to his absence on the field after halftime, and the Raiders officially listed him as out with a back injury.
The situation escalated quickly, with him going from doubtful to return to being taken to the hospital in an ambulance, still in his game pants. According to the reports, despite no serious external wounds, it is a crucial part of the game to rule out any internal issues that might trigger problems afterwards.

The medical staff ran tests, and initial reports suggest that he has avoided a severe injury and is displaying positive signs, which is good news for the fans. Nonetheless, there’s a probability that he may not be able to play in Week 7. Garoppolo had played a crucial role in the Raiders’ 13-3 halftime lead, ultimately contributing to their 21-17 victory over the New England Patriots, which brought Las Vegas’ record to 3-3.

If he can’t return for the upcoming game, there’s a question of who will step in for him. There a couple of candidates on the list who might be in line to take the 31-year-old QB’s place. But, what ultimately matters is the actual situation on the game day, this Sunday.
The two QBs on the list!
Brian Hoyer took over for the injured Jimmy Garoppolo after halftime of Sunday’s game against the Patriots. The 38-year-old completed 102 yards with 6 of 10 passes. The highlight of his performance was a 48-yard third-down pass to rookie wide receiver Tre Tucker, which was the Raiders’ longest play from scrimmage this season.
However, another NFL insider, Ian Rapoport, hinted that rookie Aidan O’Connell might get the starting nod in Garoppolo’s absence for the upcoming game against the Bears. O’Connell previously started in Week 4 when the Raiders faced the Chargers, resulting in a 24-17 loss.

This was because Garoppolo was sidelined with a concussion. O’Connell had 238 passing yards, one interception, completed 24 of 39 passes, and allowed seven sacks. Meanwhile, coach Josh McDaniels expressed relief, saying, “Very happy that we, obviously, dodged a bad scenario, so we’ll just kind of take [doctors’] advice.”
He had further added, “We don’t even have everything we need yet to make that determination, but the fact that we’ve played three guys already certainly doesn’t hurt. It’s not ideal in terms of what you want to do, but [O’Connell and Hoyer] both got game experience. They both have had to operate our offense in critical situations in close games, so that’s helpful for them too.”
