Patrick Mahomes’ limp after being hit in the Bears game drew collective gasps from the Chiefs Kingdom. Then, their 2x SB MVP had to leave the field for the entire second half. Last week was a rollercoaster ride for Chiefs fans, who saw their QB being injured in one game and then leading the team to victory in the next game. Will Patrick Mahomes be able to pull off the same magic in the two upcoming matches as well?

What’s the alternative? Blaine Gabbert. He was signed only this year on a one-year $1.3 million contract from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Fans are hoping it will not come to this.

A foreshadowing of something terrible?

The Chiefs were at a very comfortable lead of 31-0. It was 1st down and 15 yards, with just a few seconds remaining for halftime. As Mahomes threw the ball that was snapped to him, Bears pass rusher Yannick Ngakoue fell on his right ankle. A video by the NFL showed the QB wincing in pain, raising his right foot. “Oh boy, that’s not good,” the commentator remarked.

As Mahomes left the field, limping, his backup Blaine Gabbert took his place. Mahomes had scored two touchdowns before he was injured, and the Chiefs had managed to keep the Bears at 0. After the Chiefs’ talisman was sidelined from the field, the Bears scored 10 points. However, the star QB player returned for the very next game against the New York Jets and secured a win for the Chiefs. But not everything was right in the Jets game. Could that be a foreshadowing of what is to come?

#1 QB loses to A-Rod’s successor

The Chiefs vs. Jets match scripted history. And no, we’re not talking about it being historical because Wolverine, Deadpool, and Taylor Swift were present. It was the first in Mahomes’ career where he was outdone by the opposing QB in terms of completions, passing yards, TD passes, and interceptions. Zach Wilson finally seemed like he could at least begin to claim to be Aaron Rodgers’ successor. The ankle injury was clearly impacting Mahomes’ performance.

While Zach Wilson’s comeback was a surprise, the other Wilson’s is not. Denver Broncos QB Russell Wilson has been proving doubters wrong in the last three games against the Commanders, Dolphins, and Bears. Although the Broncos managed to win only one of the three matches, Wilson finally seems to resemble his former Seattle Seahawks self. The Chiefs are up against the Broncos on October 13 and the Minnesota Vikings on October 9. Fans are hoping their QB recovers fully from his ankle injury. Losing against 1-3 Broncos and 1-3 Vikings will not look good on the Chiefs’ resume.
