As the NFL trade deadline for the year slowly approaches, teams are going for one final search in the market. Being fresh from their last defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the Indianapolis Colts are no exception to the requirement. The management has made some activities on the team roster in the past few hours, trying to strengthen their side.
The NFL aggregator Dov Kleiman has confirmed the early news on X (formerly, Twitter), revealing the team to have cut off one seasoned name from the squad and acquired one young blood in his exchange.

Amari Rodgers of the Colts had a poor outing against the Jaguars last Sunday after the wide receiver only caught 2 throws for 12 yards. It was only his third regular season game for the franchise. Following that, the Colts have felt like they are done with the former practice squad WR’s service.
Dov Kleiman, an NFL journalist, has updated about the same on his X profile, though adding further about the trade that took place against Rodgers. It is the inclusion of CB Ameer Speed that has taken place to stabilize the side a little more just before their next game, opting for a rookie instead of a veteran this time around.

Speed was a 2023 sixth-round pick for the New England Patriots who just released him a day before. Roughly the same age as Rodgers, Speed is still in his rookie season and it is indeed an interesting trade for the Colts, which they would hope will pave out to be in their favor.
Interesting moves by the Colts
Having joined the Colts in August, Rodgers is no stranger to the NFL world. The 24-year-old was a third-round draft pick for the Green Bay Packers in the 2021 NFL, and the Houston Texans acquired him in November last year after he was waived by the former.

Following another waive-off, the Colts signed him for the practice squad in August and elevated him to the active roster. But it looks like things haven’t worked much in favor of Rodgers even this time around, with him entering the market without a team once again.
It remains to be seen how the 23-year-old Speed favors the Colts midway through the season. Especially after it was assumed that the Patriots released the rookie just to clear his waivers and resign. But signing with the Colts takes away that opportunity.
