He also stated something important that fans and the media needed to hear in his post-game presser.

Mahomes went into the nature of their victory before the media when he said: “It’s not always going to be pretty… for four quarters, especially when you’re playing a good defense like that, but whenever the opportunity arises, it’s about going down there and finishing.” Besides talking about his team, Mahomes had much to say about his rival on the Jets team, Zach Wilson.

“He played his tail off. He battled. We have a good defense, and he made a lot of big-time throws into the windows and down the field,” Mahomes said in praise of the 24-year-old after the game. The reigning NFL MVP’s words will boost motivation for the youngster after the harsh treatment earlier this season.

Coming of age moment for Wilson

Earlier this season, in the Week 1 game, the New York Jets’ costly acquisition, Aaron Rodgers, was sidelined for an entire season with an Achilles tendon injury. Backup QB Wilson was thrust into guiding the Jets throughout the season. Still, after a couple of less-than-impressive games, people were calling for his removal. One of the best QBs in the game, Mahomes, had praised him after the meeting at MetLife.

Wilson had his best game of the season, going 28 of 39 for 245 yards and two touchdowns. He also ran for a 2-point conversion that tied the game at 20 in the third quarter. Wilson would love to capitalize on this form and get his team back to winning ways.
