The Kansas City Chiefs, the reigning Super Bowl champions, are cruising toward another playoff berth with standout players Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce racking up victories one after another. The Chiefs fared even better under pressure, as evidenced by their recent victories over the Jets (23-20) and Minnesota Vikings (27-20). The team currently appears to be invincible after four straight wins.

After the game, the Chiefs’ injury report was made public, which will undoubtedly be a severe blow to their supporters. Travis Kelce, who is reportedly struggling with an ankle sprain, isn’t taking part in practice sessions; his status is DNP. So, what was the reason for the injury? Let’s find out.

Travis Kelce’s elder brother Jason Kelce, who is a veteran player for the Philadelphia Eagles, is also the host of his podcast, ‘New Heights.’ In his recent post on X, Jason shared a clip from the podcast with none other than his own brother.

The brothers were discussing Travis’s injury in the game against the Vikings. Jason started by saying, “Early on you went down with a non-contact injury and a lot of fuss has been brought back around turfs in stadiums.” In tournaments like the NFL, players have to deal with contact injuries on a regular basis. Jason was on the mark as he pointed out the damage artificial grass can do to the players.

Jason goes on to ask his brother about the injury, ‘Did your ankle get caught in the turf or does it roll?” To this, Travis responded, “My ankle kinda slips a couple of inches and then it finally grabs on the turf and that’s been the knock, is that when you do slip you don’t just slip right through the grass.” That’s when Jason added, “It slips then grabs,” pointing out that a player is not ready for the same.

Blowback around the use of turf is real!

In the latter half of the clip, Jason acknowledged that “the internet was quick on blaming this whole thing on the slit film turf.” Jason got furious about the use of any turf, whether it’s slit film turf or not, and admitted that they get to get rid of the turf altogether. About the use of turfs in indoor stadiums, Jason came up with a hilarious reply: “They make UV lights, you can grow grass inside the stadium. There is fre*king p*t barns right down the street, they are growing mountain of p*ts, we can grow grass indoors.”

The Chiefs will go against the Denver Broncos in Thursday’s clash this week. While Travis’s playing seems iffy, the Chiefs might not even miss him during the game. The reason is the below-par performance of the Broncos this season. Losing four out of five games at the start of the season is “hard” and the stats speak for themselves. Can the Russell Wilson’s brigade come up with the tactics needed to stand their ground against the Chiefs? Can they break the 15-game losing streak against the Chiefs? We will soon find out. The game will begin at 8:15 P.M. at Arrowhead Stadium.
