A 2-1 Kansas City Chiefs will face off against a 1-2 New York Jets on Sunday. With key players down at the Chiefs camp, will the Jets succeed in averting another crash landing and ending their losing streak? After Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles in a season-ending injury while playing against the Bills, the Jets have been crestfallen. So is it game over for the Jets?
After Rodgers went down after just four plays into their season opener, the Jets still managed to win against the Bills. We still believe that there’s a good chance that replicate the victory against the Chiefs and here are the top five reasons why.
1. The Home Advantage

At MetLife Stadium, the Jets have had one of the NFL’s top home-field advantages. In the current season, the Jets logged one win and one loss at their home stadium. But historically, after analyzing the data for 10 years, that is from 2010 – 2020, the Jets recorded a 17% higher winning percentage at home than on the road. Only the Packers have a stronger home advantage than the Jets.
2. The Taylor Swift Effect
With a love-stricken Travis Kelce as their main offensive weapon, will the heart confuse the mind? In the match against the Bears, the Chiefs managed to secure a blowout win, but the outside world had just gotten wind of the couple. After that, the two have been dominating news headlines.
Will this prove a costly distraction for the Chiefs as criticism and praise pour in from all quarters? It has been confirmed that she will be present at MetLife Stadium to watch her date play against the Jets. Taylor might just distract Kelce enough for the Jets’ defense to beat him.
3. 15-17 record against Chiefs
While the Chiefs have a 2-game advantage over the Jets, the difference is too small to mark out a clear champion. Most games are 50-50 with both teams having the potential to win. The Jets have the chance to close the gap if they win the upcoming match. The Chiefs have traditionally been strong on offense with a mediocre defense. But in the current season, their defense has outshone the offense, at least in their first two games. The Jets would do well to keep their own offense in check puncture holes in the opposing team’s defense and rake in points while the ball is in their court.
4. Patrick Mahomes ankle scare
After the 41-10 blowout win against the Bears, Patrick Mahomes was seen limping. He even had to be pulled out of the game in the second half. Unfortunately for Jets fans, the 2x SB MVP has since recovered and took part in the practice sessions. But he will still be wary of not putting too much pressure on his ankle for fear of aggravating the injury. Besides, MetLife Stadium has an artificial turf which allegedly led to Aaron Rodgers’ season-ending Achilles tear. The Jets should look at maximizing their chances of winning while the Chiefs QB will not be able to give his one hundred percent.
5. Zach Wilson’s moment of reckoning

Winning 22-16 against the Bills even after Aaron Rodgers’ injury buoyed Jets fans’ hope. But, alas, it was not to last. In the next two matches the Jets tanked, calling into question Zach’s ability to lead his team. However, in an episode of The Pat McAfee Show, Aaron revealed that he speaks to Zach almost every day and he has complete faith in him. Wilson even served as Rodgers’ understudy while he was the team’s QB. That should come as a reassurance to Jets fans.
Do Jets fans have as much faith in their team as we do? Only time will tell as both Aaron Rodgers and fans wait eagerly to see how the game unfolds.
