The Kansas City Chiefs vs. the New York Jets on Sunday was a spectacular battle of skills to behold. Finally, it was the Chiefs who grabbed control of the clash in the dying moments of the game and clinched victory at 23-20. However, in the last moments of the game, it was the controversial penalty of Jets’ cornerback Sauce Gardner that grabbed the most attention.

Dragging in music icon Taylor Swift’s name, Gardner made a strong statement on the decision taken in the final deciding minute of the match. Yet, later, it was the QB of the Kansas City team, Patrick Mahomes, who commented on the last-minute holding, answering Gardner’s accusation.

Controversial decisions are a part of the football world in all senses. However, matters turn serious when contention surrounds a crucial victory-deciding penalty. The recent game between the Jets and the Chiefs witnessed a similar scenario.

While the Jets had been denied a penalty, causing uproar amongst them, it is the comment from the opposition’s QB that has grabbed the attention of the audience. A Twitter fan account called JPAFootball tweeted the statement made by the 28-year-old star.

The QB had a straightforward answer for the people listening, stating, “If you get your hands around the guy’s neck at 15 yards down the field, you’re gonna get called for something.” The football world seemed divided by the comments made by the star footballer, with Gardner seeming in disagreement with the opposition captain.

The statement didn’t sit well with the fans, who have been saying that the referee made the move only because the Kansas City Chiefs were playing. Without this debacle, the Jets may have gone on to win the game. Sauce Gardner also shared his views on Mahomes’s remarks, saying, “It was 5 or 7 yards, not 15, and he did not grab the neck, but it was shoulder pad, which he did in his defense.

The cornerback even commented on the controversial penalty in a now-edited tweet. Referring to Taylor Swift’s presence at the game, the footballer had mentioned that if he had been a “Swiftie,” the flag would not have been thrown in the last half. However, later, he edited the post to add just a simple “never mind,” indicating a sign of moving on and focusing on the next up games.

The Chiefs and Jets are going ahead in the season

As the game is done and dusted, the only thing remaining around the penalty is speculation. The Jets don’t have time to delve into the defeat of the game now and need to execute their focus on the upcoming tournament games. The side faces the huge task of overcoming three losses and a one-win deficit.

They will face the Denver Broncos next Sunday, who have just regained their form after defeating the Chicago Bears. Focus of the New York team remains on gaining back momentum after suffering major issues in their previous matches, barring Zach Wilson’s performance.
