While Patrick Mahomes has been performing like a legendary quarterback leading his team to a 5-1 win this season so far, he still believes he needs to step up to maintain his defending Super Bowl champion status. With a struggling offensive side this season, the Chiefs are making some huge changes in their roster.

It’s been reported that the Chiefs have reacquired Mecole Hardman, and are planning to get Frank Clark too in their team. It’s important to note that these two players were originally with the Red Sea priorly. However, in this offseason, the team released the duo, who were later picked by the New York Jets and the Denver Broncos, respectively.

Now as per the report, Hardman, who was drafted by the Jets for a 1-year, $4 million deal, is returning to his home to support Mahomes and the Chiefs in their wide receiver issues. Although the 25-year-old didn’t have a great impact on the Jets, for Mahomes’ side, he would be a great asset because of their coordination, playing the role of a comfortable receiver for the QB.

On the other hand, Frank Clark was released by the Denver Broncos, and there’s a chance he could return to the Chiefs as well. He indirectly did update his fans online by posting a picture of his Chiefs jersey no. 55. However, there hasn’t been any official word on Clark’s return to the Chiefs, looking at him to be an injury-prone player.

The question remains, why are the Chiefs making these roster moves? Is it true that the Chiefs are struggling with their offensive ends? Well, Patrick Mahomes has highlighted the same concern on Wednesday, indicating to a change in the procedure of working by the team, starting from him.

Patrick Mahomes shares his take on the Chiefs’ offensive side

Patrick Mahomes is currently at number 10 ranking due to his 1,006 yards and eight touchdowns so far this season. However, it’s worth noting that Mahomes has thrown for a season-low record (251 yards) as well in his last four games. In an interview on Wednesday, Mahomes stated, “I just haven’t played very good to start the season, so I think if I start playing better, everybody will start playing better.”

The statement surely indicates the strong example the QB wishes to set for his team to follow, along with the standard the footballer hosts for himself. However, this statement isn’t just a challenge to his upcoming rivals; it’s also a gentle warning to his teammates to upgrade their game, securing a greater place in the season.

The Chiefs’ offensive evidently hasn’t been as effective as in prior years. When the winless Chicago Bears’ matchup isn’t counted, they only score 20 points on average each game with Travis Kelce leading the team in receiving with 17 receptions despite missing a game. On the other hand, we cannot overrule the fact that the Chiefs’ offense ranks third in total yardage and 10th in points scored.

Therefore, it seems there is no such alarming situation, as the Chiefs are still reigning on the top of the AFC West scoreboard. Though, likely for Mahomes and his team, the Chiefs would look to settle the games ahead with a better offensive record from their side. Furthermore, the Red Sea still has many young receivers who can join them on the field. And the recent addition of Hardman to their roster will probably provide the much-needed strength for the team.
