The New England Patriots just took an unexpected detour into unfamiliar waters! Not literally, but they might as well have taken a backup boat to Gillette Stadium! They went head-to-head with the New Orleans Saints and, oh boy, it was like watching a shipwreck out there. The scoreboard read 0-34, and that’s not the kind of score you’d expect from the Patriots.

This is uncharted territory for the Patriots; they haven’t tasted this bitter a defeat since 2016. That’s a seven-year-old wound they definitely didn’t want to open up again. But sadly, it’s safe to say that on this season’s progress report, Bill Belichick and his crew are getting handed a big, bold ‘F.’ However, this isn’t their first rodeo in the “ugliest loss” category this season. It’s like they’re competing for that dubious title week after week.

Trying to describe just how ugly this loss was for the New England Patriots is like trying to tackle a runaway freight train – nearly impossible! The scoreboard tells a brutal story: 72-3 in their last two games, and a dismal 1-4 record after Week 5. The Patriots are on a wild rollercoaster ride this season, derailing expectations left and right. They kicked off the season with back-to-back losses, followed by an underwhelming defeat in their fourth game, and finally, Sunday’s showdown with the Saints that felt like a horror movie sequel. The Saints leaped ahead 21-0 by halftime, and the Patriots’ ship was sinking fast, leaving them at 1-4 for the first time since Y2K.

NFL detective Don Kleiman didn’t hold back, taking to social media on ‘X’ to spill the tea on the Patriots’ struggles post-match. He dropped a truth bomb with the caption, “Report: The #Patriots offense is struggling and now a source close to QB Mac Jones says – “No matter how good of a cook you are, you cannot make garbage taste good”, via @henrycmckenna The source added: “Even if it was not Mac at QB, what QB would want to play here under these conditions?” Bill Belichick is the GM as well as the coach, and the rap completely falls on him.

While it looks like Belichick’s head might be on the chopping block, the veteran Head Coach must surely have some tricks up his sleeve to salvage the season. What lies next for the dismal team almost on the outs?

Bill Belichick is the ultimate multitasker in New England, serving as both head honcho on the sideline and the de facto puppet master behind the scenes. But these last two games have exposed some chinks in his armor on both fronts. The Patriots looked like they weren’t really prepared for those matchups and their offensive arsenal seemed about as powerful as a deflated football.

To put it bluntly, they’ve served up a grand total of three points and coughed up only five turnovers over the past two games. That’s like trying to execute a Hail Mary pass with a broken arm – it’s just not working out. Essentially, they’ve been outscored like a rookie linebacker in an open field.

As for what Sunday’s game means for quarterback Mac Jones, well, let’s just say he got a couple of timeouts on the bench for the second week in a row. Whether it spells doom for him or for Belichick, himself, is still up in the air like a tight spiral that could either land in the end zone or get intercepted.
