The Denver Broncos have recently taken some drastic measures. Currently, the Orange Crush holds a league record of 3-1. After suffering three consecutive losses, Russell Wilson‘s team finally secured a victory in their most recent Sunday matchup against the Chicago Bears, with a final score of 31-28.

The Broncos are set to face some formidable opponents in their upcoming games, including the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs. As they are moving forward, the team, under the leadership of coach Sean Payton, made some tough decisions, including the release of their $70 million veteran wide receiver, Randy Gregory.

When Randy Gregory signed a five-year, $70 million contract with $28 million fully guaranteed in March 2022, the Broncos had high hopes that the 30-year-old would emerge as an elite pass rusher. However, those hopes have now been dashed as the team is releasing Gregory, as reported on Wednesday.

Coach Sean Payton explained the decision, stating that it was made in the best interest of the team. The official announcement of the same is expected to be made within 24-48 hours if no trade partner emerges. Payton stated, “We just felt some of our younger players and where we’re going, it was best for our team.” Notably, Gregory did not request his release from the team; it was solely the decision of the Broncos.

Back in 2022, the Dallas Cowboys had shown interest in signing Gregory, but the deal didn’t materialize, and he ultimately joined the Broncos. Now, there seem to be three potential destinations for the linebacker. One option is the Los Angeles Rams, who have opened up an opportunity for an edge rusher due to average performances by Michael Hoecht and Byron Young.

The edge rusher has been a topic of conversation this season, especially after the Chiefs drafted Felix Anudike-Uzomah. Hence, for the Red Team, Gregory can be there to fill in the position. Another suitable team could be the Baltimore Ravens, as several of their players have suffered injuries. Gregory could also join forces with Jadeveon Clowney and Kyle Van Noy to provide valuable depth to the team.

Locke, giving them a total of 21 days to return to active rosters.
