Not so long ago, Patriots‘ Mac Jones was dubbed the NFL’s best rookie quarterback. The NFL 2021 first-round draft led the league in almost every stat as a rookie, leaving some of the most prominent names in the league behind. But things kept progressively deteriorating for the QB since then. Although not as good as 2021, there were still sparks of brilliance in Jones’ 2022 season. But this year, Jones just remains a shadow of his former self. With his worst-ever record in the past three seasons, the Patriots are struggling.
Naturally, it engraved the fans, and some of them are burning with anger. Quite literally. In this situation, Jones’ next game against the Bills is his most crucial match for the franchise to date, one or the other way around.

In a disappointing start, Jones has registered 1008 yards, five touchdowns, and six interceptions across five games this season. His awful 74.2 passer rating lands him at 33rd in the NFL. And the QB’s performances have taken their toll on the Patriots, as they are currently on a 3-match losing streak, and a 1-5 in the season.
Jones’s latest display in the loss vs. the Raiders has triggered many fans further. Most are fed up with the young quarterback. But one of them completely lost it, and ‘fired’ things up in anger. Quite literally. In a video shared by the NFL on X (formerly, Twitter), a fan sets a Mac Jones jersey on fire after pouring gasoline on it.
WOW: #Patriots fans are so fed up with QB Mac Jones that they are pouring gasoline and lighting his jerseys on fire

Terrifying sight, isn’t it? Fans had mixed reactions to the clip. While some indirectly supported him, others it was going overboard. See the reactions here.
One fan thought it was just for a show.
Anything for clout

One looked to have not liked Jones from the beginning.
What kind of dumbass buys a Mac Jones jersey to begin with?

But most agreed that it was unnecessary given he’s still very young and among the best quarterbacks just a few years ago.
If I’m Mac Jones, I would demand a trade after seeing this video. Best QB in the franchise has had in years and this is how they treat him…

But a year ago he was better than Tua 😂😂

One even mentioned the fact that Jones still has time to catch up to Tom Brady.
Whelp…some sacrificial Lamb had to follow Brady.

While it’s unclear what remains in the near future for Jones, it’s noticeable that the Patriots have taken notes of his repeated skunks. Jones was benched 2 straight games following his poor performance against the Jets, both of which the team lost. Although he started for the Raiders game, that decision ultimately cost the Patriots. Jones was sacked in his own zone at the end of the fourth quarter, awarding 2 points to the Raiders and eventually the victory.
His upcoming game might decide his future with the team, as the Patriots take on the Bills on October 22. It could either embark on a revival story or become the final nail in the coffin for Mac Jones.

Jones’ ultimate test for the Patriots
After an average 2022 season, this year Jones is ranked as one of the worst QBs in the league. And no one can argue that. In a do-or-die situation, the QB faces the Bills challenge on upcoming Sunday. The Bills aren’t having a smooth season either, but that’s heavenly compared to what the Patriots are going through. Despite losing Damien Harris early in their last game, they emerged victorious against the Giants. And that confidence earned from that performance will make things even tougher for the quarterback.
Jones’ future is uncertain, and it completely depends on his performance in the upcoming games. If things don’t drastically improve, coach Bill Belichick and Mac Jones may have to say goodbye to the franchise even before the former reaches his 300th win mark in the NFL.
