It couldn’t get better for Travis Kelce! On National Tight Ends’ Day, Mahomes conferred the title of future Hall of Famer on the 34-year-old TE. And with Taylor in attendance for the game, the Kelce-Mahomes partnership was at its best. The Kansas City Chiefs offense seemed to be getting back its mojo again as they collected 31 points against the Los Angeles Chargers. And the defense uncharacteristically did a great job of keeping the Chargers at 17.
The Mahomes-Kelce partnership is one of the best in the league right now. And week after week, they prove it. But are the Chiefs looking to change things up and reduce the pressure on Kelce with their recent trade? Or will they continue to rely on Killa Trav?

Speaking to the media after the game, Mahomes answered the media about how the Chargers were conscious of Kelce and tried to keep him down. “There’s a lot of things but the main thing is the way he is able to recognize coverages and adjust on the fly,” Mahomes said of his favorite target and best chum, both on and off the field. With just 15 seconds on the clock for the second quarter to end, the ball was at the 1-yard line. After the ball was snapped, Mahomes passed it to Kelce, who was facing my 5 linebackers. And then the 6’5″ TE accomplished an incredible feat.
After receiving the ball, the Chargers defensive line charged at him. Pushing through them, he made it to the goal line with a pile of bodies on him. Touchdown! This was Kelce’s 73rd TD of his career, ever since he started playing in 2013. But the icing on the cake was that this was the 50th Mahomes-Kelce TD, and that too on his special day. Kelce scored 22 TDs before Mahomes, in 5 years, double that (51) in 5 years after Mahomes!

Chiefs’ star QB Mahomes aptly said about his reliable TE, “He can be on the same page as me at all times. Did a great job. He does it week in and week out. And that’s why he’ll be a Hall of Famer one day.” With a great target in Kelce, the Chiefs squad has been looking for a dependable second target. Their recent signing up of Mecole Hardman, from the Jets and a former Chiefs player, seeks to fill in that gap.
The result is a reunion with the franchise’s 2019 second-round pick — one that injects playmaking potential into the offense. The wide receiver had played only 28 offensive snaps with the Jets and had only one reception in five games. But now back with the Chiefs, he is expected to be engaged more. 2021 saw him collecting 693 yards and 59 catches. After that, his stats went for a toss as he skipped eight games because of multiple injuries and he was traded to the Jets. Chiefs are hopeful that it will change now.
The Chiefs’ defense has played extremely well this season and hasn’t allowed more than 21 points in any game yet. The offense, which was off to a wonky start this season, seems to be slowly getting into form. After losing their season opener match, the Chiefs are yet to be defeated and are on a 6-game winning streak. Kelce had missed the first game of the 2023 season, so factoring that in, the Chiefs seem to stand unbeaten with Kelce playing!
