The Denver Broncos are on a hot streak right now, winning 4 back to back games against some of the NFL’s most respected teams. They have come too far since the start of the season and rank just behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West rankings. To make it to the playoffs, the Broncos have a tough road ahead as they battle the Cleveland Browns as their next opponent. They seem to have drawn some inspiration from Ric Flair’s mantra, ‘To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man,’

The Denver team has doubled down on the philosophy of becoming stronger by seeking strong opponents. The 5-5 team could surely use some inspiration as they are going against the strongest defense in the league, the Cleveland Browns. How well would they adopt this inspiration from Ric Flair?

Imitation is the best form of flattery. Well, the Broncos have no option but to go all in against the tough Cleveland Browns defense. The Browns are playing an exceptional level of defense and one could argue that they are the “man” when it comes to running the defense. The most significant threat from the Browns is their defensive end Myles Garrett, who has 13 sacks in the 10 games. Even Sean Payton seems to be in awe of the Browns’ DE.

“He’s smart, he’s talented. He’s got every one of those traits that you’re looking for. His get-off’s fantastic. He’s battling chips and nudges and all of those things. He’s having a great season. They’re playing really good defense. They’re first in the league in a lot of categories. He’s something else.” Mentioned Coach Payton.

Though the match-up is tough, the Broncos believe that they can take on this tough defense and emerge victorious.

“They defend the run, they rush the passer, they’re a talented group and they do it well and they’re coached well, but we think we’re a pretty damn good group, too. It’s going to be a fun challenge and a fun game on Sunday.” Said Mike McGlinchey, the Broncos offensive tackle.

However, there are some things that have become a roadblock in the Denver team’s road to success. Getting the yardage has been one of them.

The Broncos falling short of a distance

In week 11 of this season, the Broncos were only able to rush for 46 yards, compared to a 134-yard average per game from week 5 to week 10. These Broncos stats rank 6 in the NFL this season. The Broncos, like many other teams, have serious problems getting into the red zone and scoring from there. This is going to be exponentially troublesome against the Browns as they have only allowed 2.1 red zone drives per game.

The Broncos land at 21 position overall in terms of red zone offense. Per McGlinchey, unwanted penalties are “killing” the Broncos. The Browns, with people like Myles Garrett, don’t miss an opportunity to crush the opposition. According to McGlinchey, the Broncos need to do a better job at the offense against one of the best defenses in the league.
