The MetLife Stadium made history after it was selected as one of the hotspots to host the FIFA game in 2026. The New Jersey-based stadium was opened in 2010 which gives the fans a state-of-the-art football experience that is now being contested by several NFL players. The stadium which is a bliss for the fans with its pyrotechnics, laser shows, and t-shirt cannons, becomes a waking nightmare for the players when they step their feet on the field.

If one goes by data, more than 30 players have suffered injuries in the last three years on this field. Veteran QB Aaron Rodgers became the recent victim as he tore his Achilles during the Jet’s season opener. A recent survey by the Athletic opens doors for perspectives as MetLife Stadium gets the least favorite spot. This raises concerns if MetLife Stadium Company is actually ready for an event like FIFA or not.

New York and New Jersey have been chosen as one of the host cities and revealed the new branding. While the soccer fans around the city gathered in Times Square, New Jersey’s governor Phil Murphy said “Let’s kick off 2026!” North America is ready to host the biggest soccer tournament and Metlife is getting ready to host at least eight FIFA games.

But a recent survey sheds light on the dismal conditions that Metlife will produce for the soccer players. The Athletic surveyed 85 NFL players to determine their favorite and least favorite NFL stadiums. The top three positions were secured by the Arrowhead Stadium, US Bank Stadium, and the SoFI Stadium. Joe Pompliano broke the news about the survey on X.

The bottom three positions were secured by MetLife Stadium, FedEx Field, and the Highmark Stadium. The reason why MetLife is discarded so much by the NFL players is because of the use of artificial turf which has made players like A-Rod suffer from season-ending injuries. The Arrowhead is the 3 oldest NFL stadium but still wins the heart of every player because of the natural conditions that instill confidence in their hearts while they dish out their best performances.

Way forward for MetLife to withstand the test of time!

The synthetic field which has caused major upsets and debacles in recent years is a thing to worry about as the FIFA is approaching fast the stadium has to shift for natural alternatives sooner rather than later. Soccer players are not familiar with playing on artificial turf that much and rather dislike synthetic turf altogether. With just two years left to the start of the mega event, it’s high time that MetLife starts working it out after this season.

Aaron Rodgers, who suffered a season-ending injury on this field gave a rather closer picture: “There’s obviously been a lot of conversation around grass field compared to turf field, but I feel like the other night, it’s been one of the best surfaces I’ve seen that’s artificial“. Even though Rodgers’ remained positive, the injury resulted in a turf vs. grass debate. In September, the NFLPA called on the league to move to a grass field.

Even Jason Kelce directly hit the turf game on ‘New Heights’ when his brother TE Travis Kelce faced an injury because of the synthetic field in the game against the Vikings a month ago. Well, now the roaring against the artificial turf is rising around the country. As the recent updates have cleared this out, the MetLife field will not be changed till the next year!
