James Tedesco will be making his NRL debut in America! Following in the footsteps of the NFL, the National Rugby League is making its debut in America for the first time in the history of the sport.
The Sydney Roosters full-back and skipper spoke to EssentiallySports exclusively ahead of the NRL season opener. The Trent Robinson-led team’s captain talked about what the American audience should expect from the NRL games that the Allegiant Stadium will host in Las Vegas on March 2.

James Tedesco expanded on his USA Rugby debut and how the American audience is soaking it all in. His premise behind the Americans liking the sport lies behind the sport’s brutality and constant highlight-worthy action.
“We know how good of a game it is that we play. We know it’s very brutal, there’s a lot of action, a lot of highlights. So, I’m sure the American crowd will definitely enjoy it.” Said the Roosters captain. Also, the NRL is leaving no stone unturned and going all in on marketing and advertisement to plant the seed of rugby in American hearts.
The Roosters captain elaborated more by adding, “But yeah, there’s a lot of advertising and marketing to make sure we get a big atmosphere, a big crowd there at Allegiant Stadium. And I’m sure every American who either comes to the game or watches on TV will be very excited and impressed with how good our game is.”
Las Vegas being the mecca of entertainment is a perfect place for the NRL’s debut, especially after the conclusion of the Super Bowl. But maybe it’s time for the audience to witness something different and adrenaline-loaded. They would have two opportunities to do so.

On March 2, the Manly Sea Eagles will be taking on South Sydney Rabbitohs. The event will be followed by another bout between the Sydney Roosters and the Brisbane Broncos. The weekend’s first game will kick off at 6:30 PM Las Vegas Time (Sunday 3 March at 1:30 pm AEDST).
The duration of a Rugby game is about 2 hours. But in that brief time, copious amounts of action and excitement build up. That’s one of the USPs of the sport and the reason why the NRL thinks that the sport will grow among Americans. Even a small portion of rugby fans watching the game from their homes, pubs, bars, or the Allegiant is a huge deal for the league.

“I know there’s lots of sports bars that have five or six sports on at the same time, so why not have rugby league on as well? Because it’s not as long, it doesn’t take four hours like an NFL game, it’s only two hours, but that’s 40 minutes with not many breaks in between.”
He further added, “And yeah, it’s short, sharp and compact with not many breaks in play. So, I think that’s a thing that can attract a lot of the American audience.” Said Tedesco later on in the interview.
