Nick Sirianni is trending towards a return to the Philadelphia Eagles in 2024. It is also true that since the Eagles lost their final game, ending the hopes of the fans and themselves to win the Super Bowl, the coach’s position is in jeopardy. However, reports indicate that the team is giving Nick Sirianni another chance for the next season, but will Jeffrey Lurie‘s decision be worth it?
The Eagles started this season with phenomenal performance with 10 wins and 1 loss. However, the second half was challenging for the Birds. To find out what went wrong, Sirianni met with Lurie in a meeting on Friday. Reporter Dianna Russini revealed that they were “expected to have a plan for how he [Sirianni] will improve the team.” Now, all signs point towards his probable return to the Eagles for the 2024 season. We can think of 5 reasons why Sirianni’s return is arguably not welcomed by many.
Eagles’ December losses

Starting like a hot team with 10-1, the Eagles fell in December due to multiple injuries, and the loss of the coordinators from their Super Bowl squad. Head coach Nick Sirianni decided to bring in someone new from outside the team to be the defensive coordinator. He chose Sean Desai, who had recently lost his role as the one in charge of making defensive play calls to Matt Patricia in mid-December.
The Eagles had a tough time in a couple of games, losing to the 49ers, the Cowboys, and then the Seahawks. They did win on Christmas Day but allowed a lot of points to the Giants. Their New Year’s Eve against the Cardinals ended with a loss, giving up 35 points, and in the last game, despite having a chance for the number 2 seed, they were defeated by the Giants with the coach pulling out the main players midway through the game.

Dispute broke in the locker room
In September last year, Jalen Hurts and A.J. Brown reportedly had some dispute over the game passes and scoring big in the matchups. The attempts to get Brown the ball in the end zone didn’t work out. Although Brown refrained from saying anything about the issue, Hurts responded by saying that he thinks “everybody wants to make plays,” calling Brown a great player and teammate. This issue wasn’t addressed by coach Nick Sirianni.
Furthermore, later in the season, after losing to the Cardinals, the Browns’ frustration was visible on the field, and many believed it was towards the coaching staff this time. However, later it was revealed that Brown has clearly mentioned that he “isn’t mad on Sirianni, or anybody else.”
Jason Kelce’s rumored retirement chaos
Being a guide to the team, Sirianni isn’t able to address the chaos going on in the locker room, and on the internet. After the season-ending loss, Jason Kelce hinted at his retirement, which he later denied claiming the emotions as one of the reasons behind it. However, this rumor has affected the Eagles’ credibility as a franchise, with many believing the contract or team issues are the reason. As Sirianni hasn’t addressed this issue as well, many believe that he isn’t the right coach for the team.
Eagles’ undisclosed plan
After the season-ending loss, Sirianni was called by the team owner Jeffrey Lurie for a meeting to discuss the issues and the future roster. They reportedly met on Friday and as expected discussed the new plan for a better 2024 season. However, the plan isn’t being disclosed yet, leaving fans wondering about their next strategy to win or lose the 2024 season.
It is reported that Sirianni is being given another opportunity, but the DCs would be scrutinized. It is expected that there will be changes on the defensive side of the football, with the staff possibly undergoing several changes.

After defeating the Chiefs on November 20 at Arrowhead last year, coach Nick Sirianni reportedly trolled the Chiefs’ fans. While exiting the field after the win, he stood under the fans’ stands in the shade, and shouted, “Hey, I don’t hear sh*t anymore, Chiefs fans!….See ya,” and walked off the field.
But after the last regular game thrashing, Sirianni faced a backlash from Philly fans, with one throwing a bucket of popcorn on him, and shouting, “Nick, you’re done!” All these troubles painted a rather bad image of the team as a whole. Not to mention their leader.
