12-year NFL veteran, Ertz is known for making money. After being selected by the Eagles second-round pick, his three-year deal with the Cardinals brought significant attention to him in 2021. He became one of the 10 highest-paid TEs in the NFL by signing the $31,650,000 deal with Arizona.
But, currently, his excellent deal with Commanders also made him the highest-paid player. A few months back in March 2024, an ex-Lions player, inked the one-year $5 million contract deal with the Commanders.

Allegedly, under this amazing deal, NFL TE is going to receive an average annual salary of $3,000,000. Zach Ertz will earn a base salary of $1,210,000 this year. Additionally, he will also get a signing bonus of $750,000 and a roster bonus of $411,765. Besides that, Commanders TE will also earn a workout bonus of $40,000.
Impressively, he will carry a salary cap hit of $2,411,764 with a total guaranteed of $1,960,000. Thus, his impressive deal truly solidified his stats in the NFL. Though, before signing the 1-year deal with the Commanders on March 12, 2024, his trade by the Cardinals was pretty much impressive.
What team did Zach get traded from?
In 2021, the Eagles traded him with the Cardinals in October 2021. And, allegedly, his trade occurred in exchange for cornerback Tay Gowan. And then, he was traded to Detroit Lion, after playing seven games with the Cardinals in the 2023 season.

This led him to his release from the Cardinals. And, then veteran tight agreed to a Lions practice squad as a result of an injury to Brock Wright.
And after his contract expired on January 28, 2024, he decided to play for Commanders. After that, when he signed the deal with the current team, he expressed his stillness to play for the Commanders’ coaches Kliff Kingsbury and Dan Quinn.

During “The Pat McAfee Show” in March 2024, Ertz reflected on his sentiments to play for Commanders. “Kliff has been a huge part of my success the past few years in Arizona and so when he got the job in Washington and I was a free agent, it was very easy for me to say, ‘Hey, this is a place that I would love to play for,‘” he remarked.
It indeed demonstrated that he is moving forward with an optimistic and winning mindset with the Commanders.
