Patrick Mahomes has redefined the Chiefs from the moment he received the starting berth in Kansas City. Having led them to six consecutive AFC Championship appearances and three Super Bowl titles. Mahomes has etched his name in NFL history books while becoming a role model for players and kids following their passion for football.

Since Brady retired in 2022, Mahomes has often found himself given GOAT status for his recent success with the Chiefs. However, is he a great influence over the kids who look up to him for motivation? A recent clip where two young kids threw their hands at each other went viral, all thanks to the Chiefs’ #15. One of the kids pulled out a Mahomes celebration while pushing his opponent aggressively on the ground.

Although football games can get heated because of the emotions involved in them, kids pulling off Mahomes’ celebration raises questions over his impact on young blood. However, this isn’t the first time where Mahomes has found himself being pulled into role-model conversations.

Going back to last year, Mahomes was captured attending the Luke Combs concert at Arrowhead Stadium. But he wasn’t alone, as his wife Brittany Mahomes saw herself being ditched by the three-time Super Bowl Champion for a shotgun beer on stage. When Brittany shared some of the stories from that night at the Combs concert, fans didn’t take it the right way.

Even though most of them cheered Mahomes when he made his way onto the stage, the fans watching at home had completely different views. Some of them harshly criticized the QB for acting as a poor role model to kids, “There’s the role model showing kids how to shotgun beer, way to go, lol. Anyone who can suck beer down like that is most likely an alcoholic. Teaching kids to do the same is not my idea of a role model, but to the NFL, apparently, it is.”

Well, this wasn’t the only negative comment that Mahomes received for his antics on stage, “This is bad because kids look up to him and see this Patrick Mahomes.” Although Mahomes has found himself getting criticized for being a poor role model, he has since tried to become a good role model dating back to last year.

The Chiefs have found themselves lucky this year in terms of getting favorable referee decisions. But that wasn’t the case last year. When the Chiefs lost to the Bills 20-17, something sceptical happened that angered the Chiefs QB. With Kadarius Toney going for a game-winning TD, the referees threw an offside flag that visibly led to Mahomes bursting out in anger. Soon after the decision, Mahomes was captured slamming his helmet on the pitch and throwing cuss words towards the referees.

When asked to express his thoughts about that incident, Mahomes shared, “I think it’s the pressure of being a good person. I try to act in a way that I’m a good role model because I looked up to guys that were on this stage ever since I was a little kid running through the locker room.” Well, that incident may not have gone down well on his image as a role model to others, especially the kids following their NFL dream.

However, the Chiefs QB did say that he would try his best to remain a good example for others, “The face of the franchise, NFL stuff, that’s going to come and go. But if I can show the person I am every single day and that sets an example, that’s what I want to do when my career’s over.” Hearing Mahomes speak about his influence on others, he might be trying his best to remain calm and level-headed on the pitch.

But the kids aren’t following that example as they recreate Mahomes’ aggressive behavior in their game. Will Mahomes be able to paint a better picture of himself as the season progresses? For now, we don’t know, but down the line, we do hope he turns out to be a better role model.
