Wait, is this person from the family of the late Martin Luther King Jr.? Social media took a surprising reaction to the Civil Rights icon Martin Luther King Jr’s lookalike, who was there to cheer for the Baltimore Ravens against their game with the Houston Texans. As the Ravens fan went viral, Baltimore Banner’s Chris Korman tracked him down. The fan then came forward and shared some funny moments that happened with him on the weekend.
About two weeks ago, Martin Luther King Jr. III & his family attended the Philadelphia Eagles vs Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ wildcard game. The Bucs named Martin Luther King Jr.’s Family Honorary Captain. While the NFL community celebrated the late legend, his name once again echoed, but for different reasons. This time it was a Ravens fan, Wardell Roberts, in the stands at M&T Bank Stadium, who garnered attention while cheering for the Purple Murder team.
Wardell Roberts came to the spotlight when Lamar Jackson threw a TD pass to tight end Isaiah Likely, who plucked the ball away from the defender to the end zone, putting the Ravens ahead in the game by 14. As the cameras panned towards Roberts, who was sitting in row 2 of section 101, he received texts from friends and family notifying him that he appeared on TV.

Roberts even caught the attention of the late Dr. King’s daughter. “It didn’t stop. Everybody started sending it. They’re all saying, ‘You’re trending right now.’ It was everywhere. Even Dr. King’s daughter [Bernice King] saw it and got a chuckle out of it,” Roberts admitted in an interview with Chris Korman.

Initially, Roberts thought that it was all about a lively, shirtless fan behind him. But later on, the hardcore Ravens fan realized that he had taken over the internet. His resemblance to Martin Luther King Jr. went viral across various platforms like X, Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook, reaching millions of people.
When asked about his thoughts on his TV appearance, Roberts said, “Thought I might go home, run it back on the DVR, see us on the screen and that’s it.” Interestingly, Wardell Roberts attended the game with his son, Karson, and his wife Karla, who are all Ravens’ big-time fans.
Here’s more about the Martin Luther King Jr. lookalike
Wardell Roberts, a Salisbury graduate, works in security and coaching flag football. He was told by his college friends earlier that he resembles Martin Luther King Jr. However, at that time, he didn’t pay much heed to this. He said that his son also feels excited about the comparison, especially when he recently studied King’s legacy in school.
A long-time Ravens fan, Roberts couldn’t stop praising Lamar Jackson. He recalled a previous wildcard round in 2018, and since then has remained steadfast in his belief in Jackson’s abilities. Attending a few games each year, Roberts took his son to his first game on New Year’s Eve.
