Is again something fishy going around in the Kansas City Chiefs’ squad? Patrick Mahomes is currently enjoying his offseason with multiple accolades, such as ESPYs awards, and celebrating with family as they anticipate the arrival of his third child with Brittany Mahomes. But his on-field bond with the team is being speculated now by NFL fans because of a recently reported banter.
We all know what happened with Chris Jones last season. He opted out of the training camp because he wanted a new deal. Now, on July 14, Jones again tweeted his future plans. This time, the Chiefs DT wrote, “I’m ready for training camp.” However, it reportedly seemed that this tweet of Jones didn’t sit well with his QB. The 28-year-old also took to his official X account, and shared, “You won’t come Tuesday…”
While fans were still trying to figure out what had transpired between the two, Mahomes posted another comment on his thread. This time, he dropped three laughing emojis, reportedly confirming that it was a playful banter between the two, and nothing serious was underway.

This came much after Jones’ holdout thing last season, where he waited for the Chiefs to pay him what he wanted. Later after losing their starting game, the franchise paid him a one-year revamped deal, that included multiple incentives for the 2023 season, to end the holdout.
Now once again as the Chiefs’ training camp is about to start from Thursday, July 25, this banter came forward, reportedly as a playful holdout reminder from the QB to his DT. However, there is no need to worry this time, as the Red Army has already solved this problem beforehand.

Chris Jones “ain’t going nowhere!”
There won’t be any drama this offseason surrounding Chris Jones and his contract extension. The experienced defensive tackle has agreed to a five-year, $158.8 million contract with the team, which includes $95 million in guaranteed money. However, for many it didn’t come as a surprise, as Jones had already hinted about this in the Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade.
He expressed standing beside Patrick Mahomes, “And for those who want Chris Jones gone, I ain’t going nowhere, baby!” He further added that he plans to “be in Kansas City this year, next year and the year after!” And thus, this current five-year deal has locked him till 2028 with the team. To celebrate this moment in March, Jones tweeted a couple of memo emoji, indicating his signing the new deal. Even Mahomes wasn’t quiet about this, as he also took to his official X account to comment a smile for Jones, celebrating his moment.
