The Eagles have been hit hard in 2023! In the final week of the regular season, the Giants handed a 17-point loss to the Super Bowl runner-ups. With this significant loss, the Eagles’ regular season record now stands at 11-6, making them only the second NFL side in history to match an unexpected record.
But what does coach Nick Sirianni have to say about this? Instead of guiding the side to a Super Bowl, a feat they failed to achieve last time, he has guided them to the #5 spot. Did Sirianni take responsibility for the late collapse?

The HC, in the post-game press conference, took the ‘Jalen Hurts-way’ and reflected on the team’s performance and the road ahead. Although, unlike Jalen Hurts, Sirianni kept it less philosophical and more practical. “None of us are quitters. When you get hit in life or in football, you have two options when you get knocked down: Stay down or you get the F up..”, said Sirianni.

He further stated, “The players know how to fight, the coaches know how to fight, the staff knows how to fight”, implying that it is not over yet. He also spoke about how pride ends up deteriorating teams. Therefore, it has to be kept aside. “The best thing I can be right now in 42 years is be a part of a football team. That’s special,” said a confident Head Coach. Sirianni’s comments uplifted the spirits of the Eagles and the fans, promising a comeback.

He’s also okay and gives freedom to his players like Jalen Hurts “to do what they want to do” to make a play. Therefore, he is okay with that kind of improvisation. But can the Eagles make a comeback? Or will it be a Jets-like fate if we compare their record in the regular season?
What’s next for Nick Sirianni and the Eagles?

With the Sunday loss, the Eagles became the only team in NFL history other than the 1985 Jets to finish a season under 12 wins, despite going 10-1. The Jets squad was hit by injury, who lost 5 straight matches to finish the regular season 11-6, and the 6th one to bow out in the wild card against the Patriots.
The Eagles, on the other hand, have been hit by inconsistency. And they are scheduled to go up against NFC South champion Buccaneers on January 16, in the wild card round. Nobody knows if they’ll continue to follow the Jets’ path or if they’ll make a comeback, as suggested by Sirianni.
The head coach’s job depends on the outcome of the season. The unforgiving league and the demanding Eagles fanbase won’t sit back if they go one-and-done. And Nick Sirianni knows it too well.
