I’ve got to be better. No other way to sugarcoat it,” said Dak Prescott after losing the 2022 divisional playoff game against the 49ers. Jerry Jones was also disappointed, still waiting for his fourth Super Bowl since 1995. But the Cowboys haven’t had much luck, repeatedly falling short in the postseason. Over the years, this has become something of a mystery—especially when the NFC saw rookie Jayden Daniels reach the NFC Championship game.

Analysts have often taken shots at the owner or coaches, but this time, the brothers of players analyzed the game. Dak Prescott’s younger brother, Tad Prescott, and Micah Parsons‘ younger brother, Terrence Parsons Jr., appeared on the January 27 episode of the Unwanted Opinion podcast. They discussed why the Cowboys’ QB has yet to reach the NFC Championship game.

Tad Prescott was critical of the defense in the playoffs, stating, “Our defense has not played well in the majority of those playoff games. Now again, you can take a few of those and put them on the shoulders of him, which he’ll do as well.” However, Jerry Jones’s locker room failed as a team. Tad added, “It’s a full team game, so don’t try to pin it on the quarterback. When you can truly look at the quarterback and go, ‘Bro, you f—– it up,’ then you can blame him,” defending his older brother.

Till now, Dak Prescott has played in 2 divisional playoff games. In 2018, they lost 22-30 against the LA Rams. He completed 20 of 32 passes for 266 yards and one touchdown. However, their running game struggled, with their best rusher Ezekiel Elliott managing only 47 yards on 20 carries with one touchdown.

In the 2022 divisional loss to the 49ers, the Cowboys QB completed 23 of 37 passes for 206 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. Jerry Jones watched emotionally as his team lost 19-12, breaking the hearts of millions of fans around the globe.

This year, the Cowboys failed to qualify for the playoffs, finishing with a 7-10 record. The disappointing season forced Jerry Jones to revamp his staff.

Jerry Jones retains Cowboys VP close to him

It’s common knowledge how things operate within the Cowboys organization—first, the owner must approve a hire, and then that person must work behind the scenes. A few weeks ago, the speculation surrounding the head coach ended when Brian Schottenheimer was promoted to the position.

Now, Jerry Jones has signed a contract extension with his vice president of player personnel, Will McClay. Many teams were interested in interviewing McClay, but he wanted to stay, and now his wish has been fulfilled. His presence helps maintain continuity, as he has overseen the draft process since 2014.

He was responsible for the franchise drafting guard Zack Martin, linebacker Micah Parsons, and receiver CeeDee Lamb. He has been Jerry Jones’ trusted man since joining the organization as a scout in 2002. With his continued leadership, the Cowboys will maintain their usual approach heading into the 2025 NFL Draft.
