Xavier Worthy was turning heads long before he even stepped onto an NFL field. From racking up three All-Big 12 honors in college to shattering the NFL Combine’s 40-yard dash record with a blazing 4.21 seconds, the guy was everywhere. And when the Chiefs snagged him with the 28th overall pick in last year’s draft, it was clear—Worthy wasn’t just fast; he was built to make an impact.

After having a standout rookie season, the Chiefs’ Kingdom was hoping that Worthy would return with a bang in his sophomore year. Of course, he’s expected to return for the 2025 season—but following an off-field controversy that no one saw coming. On Friday, Worthy was arrested in Georgetown, Texas, on a felony domestic violence charge before being released. Amidst all the chaos, Worthy has finally broken the silence on the controversy on his social media handles.

On Sunday, Worthy shared a story on his Instagram with a picture of himself“New beginnings,” he captioned. Yeah, just like that. The second-year wideout is trying to move on after the controversy and looking ahead to the 2025 campaign. On top of that, he also took to his official ‘X’ handle and posted, “🙏🏽🙏🏽.”

A couple of days back, Worthy was arrested on a count of third-degree felony assault. He was held at Williamson County jail. As per the jail records, the allegations arose after Worthy allegedly assaulted a family or household member by impeding breathing. The allegations were made by a woman who had been living in the Chiefs’ WR’s Texas home.

According to the CBS News affiliate KCTV, Worthy was initially accused of, “intentionally, knowingly, or recklessly impeding the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of the person by applying pressure to the person’s throat or neck or by blocking the person’s nose or mouth.”

Xavier Worthy’s charges have been dropped

Xavier Worthy was supposed to be a backup QB when the Chiefs drafted him in the 2024 NFL draft. However, following the injuries of his fellow WRs, Rashee Rice and Hollywood Brown, the rookie WR had to step up in their absence. And you can just say Worthy was surely waiting for an opportunity. The WR wrapped up his rookie season with 59 passes for 638 yards and 6 TDs.

And now? Well, at one point, it seemed like that Worthy might miss out on his sophomore season with the Chiefs. But, the WR got the news he was surely hoping for. On Sunday, Cory Mose, the sports anchor/reporter for the KVUE News, gave an update on Worthy. The court listing for Xavier Worthy has been updated to “dismissed/declined,” he wrote in his post. No wonder the Chiefs Kingdom was hoping for the same news as well.

Earlier, Worthy’s attorneys, Chip Lewis and Sam Bassett, told the CBS News that Worthy was innocent. Additionally, Lewis and Bassett also reported that the WR demanded the woman to leave the house upon discovery of her infidelity. “She has refused to vacate the residence and made a number of extortive efforts prior to resorting to this baseless allegation against Mr. Worthy,” the statement said. “The complainant further destroyed a room in the residence, scratched Mr. Worthy’s face and ripped out parts of his hair, which there is photographic evidence of.”
