Looks like luck was once again not in the corner of the Saints. In week 17, they not only lost against the Raiders (25-10) but also suffered huge setbacks. Jaylan Ford, who was a fifth-round rookie linebacker, suffered a devastating injury. The LB was involved in a major collision, and it appears that his injury is rather significant. So much so that his teammate Xavier Worthy has shared his empathies with the rookie talent.
For those who missed the game, Jaylan Ford was covering punts in the late fourth quarter when he got injured. Many players encircled him, as he was not to put any pressure on his leg. Ford was given an air fracture bag to his right leg and then carted off the field. And later it was revealed that the LB suffered a fibula injury in his right leg. WR Xavier Worthy took to Instagram to offer his comments after this horrible injury. The WR posted a blank story with the words, “Praying for ya brudda.”
Nothing has been officially released as of yet regarding how serious the injury is. This game was a disaster for the Saints’ since they lost both a young LB and a talented DE. Yes, the team suffered another big injury and it happened to Payton Turner. The DE sustained an ankle injury and while he was questionable in between the game, he was not able to return. Jeez, talk about poor luck.

For the time being, both players’ return dates are unknown, and it will be announced in due course if they will play in week 18. The Saints’ next game is against the Bucs and while they lost against the Raiders, the team would be looking forward to winning in week 18. Even though they did not have a great season, the team would be looking forward to ending it on a good note.

As of now, rumors suggest that Payton Turner is more likely to play than LB Jaylan Ford. As for the rookie, there are fears about a fracture in his right fibula. And as you recall, this is not his only injury to his right leg this year.
Jaylan Ford did not have an ideal first season in the NFL
The worst thing that can happen to you before your big football debut is to be injured. And unfortunately, LB Jaylan Ford’s case was no different. For the past year, he has struggled with his right leg. The Saints star has already spent this year’s summer rehabilitating from a knee injury sustained in December 2023. This was the same leg in which he had suffered a fibula blow in week 17.

Moreover, the bad news is that Ford had a knee injury in the lower area. This may suggest that the blow in week 17 may have harmed the LB’s newly healed wound. Thankfully, there is a pretty low chance of that happening as he fully recovered from it in August. But the knee ailment was not the only one that sidelined him this year.
Jaylan Ford also had a hamstring injury during the first week of preseason this season. This kept him out not only for the remainder of the preseason but also for Weeks 1 and 2. It was disappointing for him to start his first season like this. Injuries have really plagued him, and only time will tell if he will make a recovery to finish the season or not. Until then, stay tuned for additional updates.
