Jets’ offseason with Haason Reddick has taken an unexpected turn. The standout edge rusher, who was traded in March in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick, chose not to participate in voluntary workouts, resulting in a $250,000 incentive loss. Reddick, 29, is due to make a non-guaranteed $14.25M in base pay in the final year of the 3-year, $45 million contract he signed with the Eagles. However, the LB’s silence over his attendance at minicamp has now sparked a flurry of rumors regarding his future with the team.

In a conversation on The Carton Show, Craig Carton spoke candidly about whether or not it was a mistake to trade Haason Reddick to the Jets. When asked whether Carton expects him to be at minicamp, he replied, “I don’t expect him to be at minicamp now they know he’s working out, he’s doing his thing at home and there’s no issue with that at all. uhh… and they have been in contact with him at the executive level, but coach Salah has concerns.”

Head coach Robert Saleh has already expressed doubts about Reddick’s attendance at the minicamp and alluded to possible fines on top of workout bonus. This unexpected development further complicates the position, especially in light of the reports that Reddick is looking for a new contract.

There are no financial guarantees in Reddick’s current contract, which is in its final year with the Eagles. Given his Pro Bowl honors and stellar sack total (50.5 over the last four seasons), it makes sense that Reddick would want a more stable financial future. The only players with more are T.J. Watt (62), Myles Garrett (58) and Trey Hendrickson (53). Currently, his $15M average annual value ranks 19th among edge rushers

As of yet, Reddick’s camp is silent, leaving plenty up to speculation. Some believe it could be a ploy to force the Jets to offer a new contract with guaranteed money, while others worry that it could cause division in the locker room because of a recent cryptic social media remark made by a former WR.

The Jets are at a critical point in their season, with Reddick’s future in jeopardy. Will they take care of his money problems and make sure he plays? Or will the team’s defensive prospects remain clouded by Reddick’s absence? This uncertainty, however, hasn’t dampened Jets’ players Gardner and Johnson, as they react vividly to Haason Reddick’s trade.

Sauce Gardner and Jermaine Johnson post wild reactions on X after Jets’ Reddick trade

Sauce Gardner took to X, highlighting the names on the Jets defense, and commented, “Joe D did it again,” along with five shocked emojis, in reference to the work that Jets GM Joe Douglas had done. Gardner also remarked on the news, over the initial NFL post, stating, “The GM convo had to go like this, Joe D: ‘I showed love to you and gave y’all Bryce (Huff) and this how you gonna do me?”

Jermaine Johnson also shared a GIF in response to the news. Gardner retorted, “I was going to comment on this GIF but I decided not to. Your account has to be hacked,” he said, adding a laugh and pause emoji button.

Reddick, originally the 13th overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, has also had stints with the Cardinals (2017–20) and Panthers (2021). His recent silence on skipping workouts fuels Jets’ uncertainty, but Gardner and Johnson’s positive reactions do add a fun element to the entire scenario.
