The Jets don’t seem to keep themselves out of the news headlines these days. With mandatory training camp beginning on Tuesday, LB Haason Reddick is nowhere to be seen. Haason has skipped the majority of the off-season training. But if he doesn’t show up in this week’s training camp, that was reduced from three to two days. He could be slapped with a $50,000 fine that would continue to stack up.

It looks like this situation is only going to get worse, as head coach Robert Saleh expects him to attend the training camps. However, Haason doesn’t seem to be communicating with Saleh, who remains in the dark. Haason, who is nearing the end of his deal, which will make him earn $14.25 million in base pay, wants a new contract. Conner Hughes, NFL reporter for SNYtv, provided an update on this contract face-off. As tweeted by Dov Kleiman, the Jets are refusing to negotiate the contract until Haason shows up in person. Neither the Jets nor Haason are willing to cave in while the Jets LB continues to be fined for his absence.

Seems like the Jets have refused to budge with Haason’s hold-out extravaganza. Meanwhile, expecting him to return with no confirmation just yet. Only time will tell whether Haason shows up in person or continues this contract circus until his demands are fulfilled.

Is Haason Reddick emulating other NFL players ‘hold-out’ antics?

The Jets knew what they were getting into after choosing to trade Haason this off-season. Before making his way to MetLife Stadium, Haason already had a contract that he signed with the Eagles back in 2022. Moreover, the Jets did offer him an extension after trading a conditional third-round pick during the off-season. But those numbers didn’t match Haason’s expectations, thereby putting himself on a ‘hold-out’ to ensure they matched his demands.

Haason might not be the only player who has used a ‘hold-out’ strategy to bargain his deal over the last few seasons. Yet another Jets player, Quinnen Williams, did the same thing last year. Williams didn’t attend any voluntary workouts, plus getting fined for the same. Eventually, the Jets listened to his demands, thereby signing him for a four-year contract extension worth $96 million. The Jets’ defensive end also added, “I know how the organization works.” Pointing out GM Joe Douglas and head coach Saleh and how they offer contracts before training camps.

However, the Jets are not the only ones on the horizon who have repeatedly faced contractual issues. The Chiefs also had to deal with a similar ‘hold-out’ last season involving defensive tackle Chris Jones. Talking about Chris, he ended up carrying the ‘hold-up’ fiasco, thereby missing his first game of the regular season before agreeing to a $158 million contract. Looking at the situations faced by other NFL teams, Haason’s tactics could be traceable to those events. Nonetheless, the Jets faithful would be hoping for Haason to turn up in order to resolve the situation and get him back into the fold.
