The Philadelphia Eagles are in a bit of a lurch. Darius Slay was already playing with an injury when he missed the Week 6 game against the New York Jets with a knee injury. On Monday came news that he had undergone an arthroscopic knee surgery and head coach Nick Sirianni announced that he would be missing the Monday Night Football game against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Eagles already have a troubled secondary, and Slay was one of the few bright spots. Now with him gone, who will Sirianni pick to fortify the defensive backs group?

As of Saturday, Sirianni still has not revealed who will replace Slay on the secondary. However, he is happy with his options and could select from Kelee Ringo, Josh Jobe, and Eli Ricks. The author of the post was gunning for Ringo as he is a Seattle native and since the game will be played in Seattle, he could have his family and friends over to watch the game.

The five-time Pro Bowler is expected to return before the end of the season, as reported by NFL Insider, Adam Schefter. But the head coach gave no clear answer and said, “We’ll see.” But another reassuring fact is that the team has not placed him on injured reserve, which seems to confirm Schefter’s timeline.

So, how good are the three options that hope to replace Slay?

Who will Sirianni go with in the game against the Seahawks?

Eli Ricks had played a season-high 47 snaps in the November 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys. He is an undrafted rookie who played his way into the secondary rotation and has remained there since Week 5. Josh Jobe has been playing with the Eagles since 2021 and is undrafted as well. An Alabama product, he has mostly played on special teams and has played in five snaps since Week 7.

Ringo played football with the Georgia Bulldogs and is a rookie who was drafted as the Eagles’ fourth-round pick. He played 22 snaps against the Cowboys. In that game, he was called out for grabbing the facemask of wideout Brandi Cooks and also for pass interference. The Eagles’ defense is currently ranked 28th in terms of both passing yards allowed and points allowed per game. With Slay’s absence, will it get worse?
