The Kansas City Chiefs are gearing up to be the AFC’s No. 1 seed, but it’s not official yet. Yes, the Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce duo is as great as an offense can be, but the Chiefs’ defense is not much talked about and often flies under the radar. Well, not anymore. The DC Steve Spagnuolo is getting the spotlight he deserves, and the Kelce brothers are here to talk about it. Right now, we can say that the Chiefs’ defense is something that their opposition needs to prepare for.

The Kelce brothers, Jason and Travis, starred in a brand-new installment of their New Heights podcast and shed some light on the Chiefs’ DC Spagnuolo and how the Chiefs’ defense has been doing under him. The team is set to do wonders because they are the youngest defense in the league.

Jason Kelce pointed out that the Chiefs are the only team in the league to hold their opponents to under 25 points in each game they have played this season. The Eagles center also mentioned how this has been a “truly master-class” performance from Steve Sapgnuolo. He added how the Chiefs’ defensive squad is at its physical peak and brilliant at what it does.

“It’s a very complete defense across the board and it’s fun to watch them play, it really is,” said Jason Kelce. Travis Kelce supported Jason’s argument by bringing up players like Justin Reid, Nick Bolton (currently injured), and Drew Tranquil, who Kelce mentioned has just been “playing ball.” He praised Tranquil for not caring about feelings, just playing football, and being a reliable guy.

A lot of it also boils down to the personnel the team hires.

Of course, we cannot forget about Chris Jones, the DT who has been doing wonders for the Chiefs since he stepped into the team. He has 15 solo tackles and 7.5 sacks this season. Considering these facts, one would think that the Chiefs’ elite defense is due for another Super Bowl win this season. Even though they lost against the Eagles, they held them down under 25 points.

Spagnuolo has been the Chiefs’ DC since 2019. Since then, the Chiefs are tied for second in total sacks and third when it comes to forced fumbles. Considering their status, the Chiefs don’t get first-draft picks when hiring players. So, they have to settle for lesser-known names, like the up-and-coming underdogs of the league. This has led the Chiefs to hire a lot of new and young talent for their arsenal; hence, their defense is much better and more vigorous than that of some other teams.
